Cleveland May 21 The national probation association opened its annual convention with Dr Charles Viatt arguing crime is treated as sport by press and public. He warns laws expand to regulate personal ethics while police respect declines and favors probation officers aiding courts in handling offenders amid a wave of conferences by social workers.
A prison guard squad fires as a break is made at the prison farm. Four inmates on the unit raise cash for Woods amid illness claims and shifting routines.
In Tucker Arkansas on May 24 four convicts led by Benny Casey attempted an escape from the Tucker State farm. Guards on horseback and ground fired, killing Jack Wade John Birchfield Benny Casey and Boyd Jewell within 100 yards of the scene. Superintendent Dee Horton called it the twelfth break for liberty in a year and said the men worked with the so called hard gang. Casey was serving life for the murder of Arkansas records clerk David W Burns.
The Buenos Aires seaplane completing the 6100 mile route from New York to Buenos Aires touched Hampton Roads safely to refuel after strong headwinds. It plans to depart at 6 am for Charleston with passengers Bernardo Duggan Eduardo Ilivero and Ernesto Campanelli. A rest stop near Assateague Bay was made as the crew faced dwindling fuel.

Fort Worth May 24 Volunteers and life saving crews persisted for 30 hours in the Trinity River seeking the body of 12 year old Emmett Myers drowned after a morning trip to a toy theater and a swimming party. Despite two vigils and several dynamite blasts no body was found.
New York May 24 The National Cash Register company infringed on 44 patents owned by the Remington Cash Register company and will pay damages for losses sustained, as decided today by Judge Manton of the circuit court of appeals.
Dispatches from Hokkaido report a long inactive volcano eruption in Tokachi prefecture Central Hokkaido. Fifty workers in the sulfur mines are missing and sixty houses were buried by lava and rock flows.
Funeral services for Samuel Joseph Brown 76 prominent Amarillo Masonic leader will be held at 8 pm in the Masonic Temple east room. Knights Templar will escort and the lodge will conduct the grave rites with Blackburn Funeral Home handling arrangements. Brown born July 21 1848 in Virginia moved to Amarillo in 1892 and helped establish multiple Masonic bodies.
