SAC Wing Boss Named Roswell Officer to Lead Amarillo Wing
Col. Ernest C. Eddy, vice commander of the Sixth Strategic Aerospace Wing at Walker AFB, will command the 4128th Strategic Wing at Amarillo AFB in June. Lt. Gen. Archie J. Olds Jr announced the move. Carpenter to fly inverted orbit on space mission
Cape Canaveral May 23 Lt Cmdr Malcolm Scott Carpenter may become the first to orbit upside down for an extended period. He plans about 20 minutes in inverted flight near the end of his second orbit to study weather patterns over the southern United States and horizon details from Texas to the Atlantic coast. He will switch from normal to inverted by yawing 180 degrees then rolling 180 degrees, likely feeling the earth above him due to weightlessness. He may remain inverted until before reaching the African west coast on the third orbit and then return to normal flight by firing jets. News officials also note plans to study the Gegen schein phenomenon and take photos from this angle.
