A group of about a score of Amarilo residents pressing the city commission for services argues they were annexed last year and now face taxes for urban services. They seek water sewer trash pickup and full city protection with reassessment of their urban status and potential re annexation. The Texas House approved HB40 to curb loan agencies charging over 10 percent by a 122 to 10 vote. It also passed the University of Houston funding bill sending it to the governor with two years of state support totaling about 5 to 6 million dollars annually. A Senate hearing on the original loan measure set for 5 30 p m Wednesday.
The insurgent Murchison group took command of the Alleghany Corp empire and snubbed Allan P. Kirby, its largest stockholder, denying him a board seat. They plan a new chief executive, keep Alfred Perlman, and pursue their pledge to split Investors Diversified Services stock. The New York meeting was not to decide leadership.

The Amarillo City Commission reviews a proposed merit and longevity pay program for 751 non police and fire city workers. Police and fire officers would keep a fixed base. others would gain across the board increases and extended longevity pay.
Presidential press secretary Pierre Salinger met Soviet officials in Vienna to discuss tentative plans for the June 3 conference between President Kennedy and Premier Khrushchev in an American owned building. Khrushchev and U. S. Ambassador Llewellyn Thompson conferred in Moscow about the meeting. Thompson said nothing changed, but did not reveal details.
A Crossroads Report writer cites a photo published by Maga zine showing 12 U S citizens at a private home pledging allegiance to the flag. A neighbor calls for banning the magazine, accusing it of brainwashing youth and treason to the United Nations.
J C Hennington of Hereford, 59, was nearly crossing Main Street when an east bound freight struck his sedan after he started across before signals cleared. The collision caused over 400 dollars in car damage while the Chief and the freight trains continued. He escaped injury. repairs to the train will cost about 25 dollars.

Amarillo youth star Larry Wieck, praised as having Mickey Mantle potential, signed with the Boston Red Sox amid interest from four other majors after a private Chandler camp showcase. Howard Doyle, a former Red Sox player, scouted him and placed the deal following the camp run by Bo Belcher.
