Plainview Man Drowns in Lake

SILVERTON May 22 A Sunday afternoon drowning at Burson Lake claimed the life of Bill Thomas 26 of 314 Juniper Plainview. An ambulance call came in between 3 and 3 30 p m. Six men in a motor boat were trying to catch tame ducks when the boat capsized and Thomas was lost. Heavy showers hampered recovery as Briscoe County officers aided by Swisher and Donley counties continued the search.

Family Recovers $7,000 Left Behind in Amarillo Tourist Court

Vernon and Mrs. Dare and two children from Van Nuys Calif recovered about 7000 dollars left in Mrs Dares purse at the Colonial Courts in Amarillo after spending the night there The purse was found by maid Mildred Demerson and turned in to the hotel office The sheriff was alerted and the Dares were stopped in Shamrock before returning to Amarillo to retrieve the money They credited the maid with finding the purse and rewarded her with 5 dollars

After a brief layoff showers moved across the High Plains with a 8 p.m. Amarillo shower leaving .02 inch in The Globe News gauge and KGNC recording .05 inch. A lightning strike near the Amarillo Country Club caused a brief power cut that was quickly repaired. Dream comes true for flier who set new coast-to-coast record

Lt. John M Conroy, 34, of the Air National Guard, flew an F86 Sabre Jet coast to coast in 11 hours 26 minutes 33 seconds. He beat a 1947 mark and credited National Guard crew and radar navigation for the record. Conroy landed at San Fernando Valley Airport after a two-year dream and planned to return to his Van Nuys pool contracting job.
