Dr. and Mrs. W. R. Newton charged with assault with intent to murder in the shooting of Dr. Roy Hunt in Littlefield. Sheriff Sam Hutson of Lamb County took Dr. Newton to the city for an examining trial. Mrs. Newton, formerly Ruth Nichols of Clarendon, was an aide at Jefferson Memorial Hospital.

Ray Villareal an 18 year old Amarillo youth drowned while swimming with three companions in Cuyler Lake six miles west of White Deer late Thursday. Rescue efforts by White Deer and Pampa fire departments located the body in 16 feet of water about 50 feet from the west shore at 11 p.m. He worked on a Santa Fe section crew and lived at 1311 Garfield Street. Funeral services set for Monday at La Iglesia de Nuestra Senora de Guadalupe with burial in Llano Cemetery.
Amarillo joins six Texas cities in an inter city travel survey to adjust passenger travel to available transport facilities and services. The Associated Press dispatch notes the survey ends Thursday at midnight and forms groundwork for rationing passenger space on trains and buses.
