In Sacramento on May 21 two adjacent columns report Mrs Roosevelt visiting a coal mine to observe operations in the raw and Mr Roosevelt visiting the Senate. The column comments on sympathy for the less fortunate and political implications of the visits.
An oil well at Watchorn near Kirkland in Childress County shows a 36.6 gravity oil with gas issuing from the mouth and mud and water at 8 inch casing. Opinions differ on the formation, with some claiming Ordovician and others Mississippi lime. acreage nearby is scarce and speculation is high as the well sits at 5653 feet before a shutdown while observers from Oklahoma monitor the situation.
Mrs Franklin D Roosevelt visited a deep coal mine near Bellaire Ohio on May 21 riding with about a dozen women and twenty men from nearby cities in electrically powered mine cars decorated with flags. She declined new overalls preferring to keep her coat fastened as the trip began.
President Roosevelt plans to deliver a veto message to a joint session of Congress after six hours of Senator Long’s filibuster. The release followed an order presented by Kennamer and companions as he left the prison. He offered little comment beyond being glad to be free.
Panhandle grain dealers estimate 3,000,000 bushels of wheat, about 10 percent of a normal crop, with reports from numerous counties showing insufficient future reseeding. C. L. Ledwig elected president, Ben F. Smith vice president, Joe Morris secretary-treasurer. optimistic notes include possible blown-in wheat.

Dr V A Hartman and Dr L W Kitchen were reindicted by a sedal grand jury on Harrison anti narcotic Act charges. Trials set for Wednesday. The case also involves Holman, Shelton, Mor gan, and two Post negros Lannie Williams and Henry Bates tied to untaxed liquor sales.
In Elizabeth on a May day a bird dropped a lighted cigarette into a nest under George Roach’s eaves. The nest burned the house, and Roach fell from a chair while trying to douse the flames. He was hospitalized with a broken kneecap as firefighters tore into the wall to reach the blaze.

Jane Addams world renowned social worker and Hull House founder died at Passavant Hospital Chicago after an abdominal operation. She would have turned 75 in September. Her doctors reported she was sinking and died at 5 15 P M after a brief decline following hospitalization.
Washington May 21 the Interstate Commerce Commission upheld freight rates and practices of southwestern railroads handling cotton with exceptions only for Lake Charles and Texas ports. The commission grouped Houston Galveston and Texas City as one terminal district and ordered minor back haul adjustments for distances up to 30 miles.
Texas senators won approval for a joint resolution authorizing a large federal exhibit appropriation for the 1936 centennial. The Senate panel favored creating a three cabinet member commission to administer the funds, with potential changes to follow on the Senate floor.
Three men lose lives at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway while qualifying for the 500 mile race. W H Stubby Stubblefield and mechanic Leo Whittaker died after a crash on the southwest turn. Johnny Hannon died in a separate crash on the big brick track. Reeves, the riding mechanic, was hospitalized in serious condition. The fatalities raise the speedway death toll to 30.
