Mack Warren, manager of the Men's Specialty Shop, talked an armed bandit out of robbing him on West Twelfth Avenue near a dark alley. Warren walked away with $45 in cash and a $75 watch and chain saved, noting he could identify the suspect.
The Amarillo City Commission fixes the distributing plant value at 750000 for potential municipal operation. Judge E C Nelson to appoint three appraisers after condemnation petition is filed. Mayor Ernest O Thompson says value derives from depreciated replacement cost and audit figures.
Weather outlook shows unsettled conditions Thursday with light rain possible in Amarillo and vicinity. West Texas mostly cloudy with local showers possible in the west. New Mexico fair in the west and unsettled in the east with showers in the northeast. Temperature readings show daytime highs around the mid 40s to 50s and lows near 30s to 40s.
Amarillo hosts a double-header convention with the Southwest Shippers Board opening at 9 AM under General Chairman Frank A. Leffingwell. The body of James G. Taliaferro, a Santa Fe engineer, was recovered after a wreck near Quinlan Oklahoma Tuesday afternoon. He was found beneath the front of the forward express car as wrecking crews righted the derailed engine and six cars in a deep cut. The body waited at Griggs Funeral home for relatives arriving Saturday.
A .03 inch rainfall fell in Amarillo Wednesday night with forecast for more light showers. Reports of hard rains came from Ghanning Texline Dalhart and Tascosa while hail affected Clayton New Mexico and Texline. Showers touched Endee Lockney Hart Dimmitt and nearby areas with cooler temperatures 57 and 44. Wheat conditions show spotting and need for rain across many localities.
Charlotte Nash Nixon-Nirdlinger, former Atlantic City and St. Louis beauty winner, is acquitted by a French Riviera jury after testifying she shot her husband Fred G. Nixon-Nirdlinger in self defense during a jealous attack. The rapid verdict set a Riviera record, with no state witnesses called.
The Globe Indemnity Company asks Potter County court to overturn an Industrial Accident Board of Texas award of 20 dollars weekly for 360 weeks to Robert Hector Gray III, son of Lieut. Robert H. Gray, based on a policy of the S A T Flying Service under the Employers' Liability Act. The insurer contends the board erred in finding liability as the flying service was a subscriber to the act.

Harold Rothschild former Borger postmaster faced a federal trial charged with embezzling 566 dollars in postal funds. A jury deliberated two hours before a sealed verdict, to be announced at the next morning court session, as witnesses including Mrs Winsor and postal inspectors testified on the case.
Thirty army planes from the 7th Bombardment group will stop at English Field in Amarillo at midday June 4 on their route from East exercises to home fields. The contingent includes the 9th 31st Squadrons from March Field Riverside and the 11th from Rockwell San Diego. The 208th from Kelly Field will detour to San Antonio. Major Joseph T. McNarney commands the group of 40 officers and 38 enlisted men. They travel from Wichita June 3 and proceed to Albuquerque after Amarillo.
Amos Carl Bennett attempted to strike a rabbit with a gun butt and discharged the weapon, wounding his leg. The incident occurred in Texhoma, Oklahoma, as he was under medical care and recovering. The bullet narrowly missed his shin bone.
Earl Quinn appeared before Kay County Judge R M Parkhurst in Newkirk on two murder charges connected to the slayings of Blackwell teachers Zexia and Jessie Griffith. He was held without bond. preliminary hearing set for June 23. no attorney present.
Joplin Missouri May 20 James Ed ward Creighton admitted he flew Coyne Hatten last Saturday in Webb City officers said He also said he was sought by Hastings Nebraska officers in a $27000 bank robbery case He claimed the killing stemmed from anger after a street collision and said he did not know Hatten before the incident
The proposed constitutional amendment to issue 212 million dollars in state highway bonds failed to reach the required 100 votes in the Texas House today. Final tally 97 for 46 against with one present. Four opposing members switched to support, but not enough. Senate had adopted the amendment weeks earlier. Session to end Friday.
Johnny Miller of Poughkeepsie New York flew over Lincoln Nebraska at 3 20 PM on a second lap of his trans continental autogyro journey to the West coast. He halted in Omaha for the weekend and circled the state capital tower before landing at Union Airport for fuel. He planned to depart for Salina Kansas tomorrow on route to Los Angeles with Amarillo listed as a scheduled stop.
