Poolidge signs the Watson Parker labor measure as the president indicates a preference for a more definite declaration. The move signals ongoing political maneuvering ahead of upcoming votes and policy debates.
President Coolidge signs the Watson-Parker bill creating an industry wide mediation board to settle railroad labor disputes. If conciliation fails, arbitration or an emergency presidential board may be appointed. Five members to be named by the president and confirmed by the Senate.
A jury in the thirty seventh district court deliberates the Earl Collins San Antonio national bank robbery case after asking if a majority can return a verdict and whether defense witnesses affect the verdict. Judge O M Fitzhugh says no to the first and that his charge covered all points of evidence. Jurors resumed deliberations after a ten o clock start last night.
In Pawhuska Oklahoma on May 20 state and defense attorneys announced they are ready for the Osage murder trial of Ernest Burkhart one of three defendants. The case tied to the 1920s Osage murders involves W E Hale and John Ramsey facing charges related to the explosion that killed W E Smith of Fairfax and wounded Rita Smith and a servant girl.

General M. D. Vance of Little Rock Arkansas was elected Commander in Chief of the United Confederate Veterans at the Birmingham reunion. He served with Gen. Cabell's brigade, helped rout Steele's invaders, and boasted he never slept in a tent. Veterans pledged loyalty to the United States and the flag in a final reunion resolution.
Paris May 20 The government told reporters after a cabinet council that it would use every resource of public credit to defend the franc which has been steadily declining. Finance minister Peret said the cabinet found the franc’s decline not justified by the internal situation and pledged firm action to prevent further collapse possibly by utilizing the remaining Morgan loan of March 1924.
J. W. Skinner, president of the Tex-Mex school in Kingsville Texas, was elected moderator of the general assembly of the Presbyterian church in the United States in Pensacola Florida on May 20.
Chicago May 20 Attorney General Carlstrom said he had asked his Springfield office to send the entire record of Russell Scott a convicted murderer now under confinement for insanity to Chicago. If alienists find him sane a legal precedent would be set returning him for execution where no such prior Illinois case exists.
The North Texas Building and Loan Association of Wichita Falls will open an Amarillo branch with A. G. Estes as in charge and relocated here permanently. The branch will be Amarillo owned with local directors and assets over 1 million dollars, aiming to aggressively expand business.
State board of pardons in Carson City Neb announces Stanko Jukich will die by lethal gas and John H Randolph to serve life. Jukich convicted of killing his fiancé. Randolph murdered his elderly mother.
Reverend L. K. Floyd of Dallas Texas was chosen moderator at the first business session of the Cumberland Presbyterian churchs 6th annual general assembly held in Columbus Mississippi today.
Two Mexicans jailed at Villa Acuna Mexico for robbing and assaulting Mrs S C Holcomb on her ranch near Del Rio escaped last night Officials were working to arrange their deportation from Mexico to Texas The attack, home robbery and subsequent escape were reported from Villa Acuna May 20 by the Associated Press San Antonio Times continued coverage

Austin May 20 rate of 88 cents per 100 pounds on carload shipments of cured hams and brewers rice is set by the Texas Railroad Commission for common point territory including Beaumont Sour Lake Western Orange and Northwestern St Louis Brownsville and Mexico International Great Northern and Texarkana and Fort Smith. Wade urged attendance at the West Texas chamber of commerce convention in Amarillo June 21 to 22. Amacker announced the Tri State fair would be bigger and better starting September 1. Jonathan Purman was elected to the Hereford focal chamber board replacing A Herbst. County Agent R O Dunkle reported progress on the jackrabbit poisoning campaign in Deaf Smith county.

Representatives from Clarendon Crosbyton Ralls Gail Post and Big Springs met in Post to push designation of Highway 88 from Clarendon to Test and extend south to Big Springs. Officers were elected for a year with two directors per county and several counties already naming directors. Secretary Lockridge to collect additional county reports and counties urged to present the measure to commissioners.
Edwin P. F. Atkins, Boston merchant long active in the Cuban sugar trade and leader of several corporations, died today after illness in Cuba. He was a prominent figure in business circles and had recently fallen ill while in Cuba.

Three people drowned in Utah as irrigation ditches and waters rose. Keith Leffler, an unidentified age, died in the Provo River during a outing. Marl Burt, 22 months, Brigham City, drowned in the Hammond irrigation canal. Button Horrocks, 18 months, Bowers, found drowned in an irrigation ditch near his home.
Washington May 20 The Senate voted 52 to 22 to reject Aubrey Boyles nomination for another term as United States attorney for southern Alabama, ending his bid to continue in the post.
