A blast and fire wiped out the McCarty Motor Company warehouse at 737 North Fillmore Street, destroying 40 stored automobiles. Loss estimated at $36,000 with a wooden 140 by 120 foot building, owned by W. H. Woodlief, burning in about 30 minutes after two alarms. Firefighters prevented spread to the Metzger Dairies plant nearby. No cause determined by night’s end. a Boy Scout trailer inventory was housed in the building.

Clemency Shown in U S Liquor Cases
Twenty violators of the national prohibition act pleaded guilty in Judge James C. Wilsons federal court. Clemency was shown in sentences for most, with suspended terms or light fines for first offenders. Neal Cobb and H T Whittington received 18 month terms in Leavenworth for possession and transportation of 21 5 gallons of whisky. Cobb and Whittington delivered liquor to a prohibition agent's apartment after a phone order. Mrs Neal Cobb and M C Crawford were fined 500 dollars each and given suspended 12 month jail terms for transport and possession of six pints of whisky. The defendants admitted taking phone orders from agents. Pair Guilty of Fraud. Mr and Mrs Tom Jewell pleaded guilty to devising a scheme to fraudulently obtain money. They testified they took orders for mail order houses, sent checks with fictitious names, and goods were delivered before the case continued.

Judge John E. Ferguson longtime Deaf Smith County resident died last week in Los Angeles. Bob Hammock and Art White received two year penitentiary terms after guilty verdicts in a Potter County criminal district court case transferred from Claude Armstrong County.
