Bath seeks state aid after Bath school disaster

Michigan Governor Fred W Green proclaimed state wide aid to relieve Bath after a demented farmer Andrew Kehoe blew up the Bath school killing more than twenty people including 37 children. The village of 300 is virtually bankrupt and the state will fund rebuilding and funeral expenses if private gifts fall short.

Residents Flee In Atchafalaya Flood Warning

In New Orleans on May 19 residents of the vast west Atchafalaya basin fled their homes as federal weather officials and state relief director John M. Parker issued flood warnings. Operators urged 27 towns to evacuate, many with populations under 600, as waters from Bayou Des Glaises levee breaks and crevasses near Melville pushed toward the gulf.

Friday outlook for Amarillo and vicinity shows partly cloudy conditions. West Texas partly cloudy. New Mexico generally fair in the south with unsettled areas north. Rain and showers expected in Illinois to the Atlantic coast, with cooler air following in the central Mississippi valley and northern Plains, plus a Utah low bringing northwest rain.

Three Days Old With Real Tooth

In Sweetwater Texas on May 19 the 15 day old Joseph William Woods Jr reportedly set two world records by developing a tooth at three days old. Dentists removed the loose tooth while he slept, making him the apparently youngest person to have a tooth.

Traffic experts meet in Amarillo for fourth annual Southwest Shippers Advisory board

Traffic professionals and rail representatives arrived in Amarillo for the fourth annual and fifteenth regular Southwest Shippers Advisory board meeting at the municipal auditorium starting 9 am. The program covers car service, freight movement, and grain cargo challenges in the Panhandle with plans to discuss boat supply and regional transportation needs. An entertainment outing to Palo Duro Canyon is planned, and Beaumont is positioning to host next year’s gathering.

Route of New Highway From Amarillo to Oil Field

Potter County Engineer J W Ryder outlines a proposed Amarillo to Liberal Oil Field highway funded by a 500000 bond issue. Zoning Committee Formed To Develop Amarillo Plans

Cyclone Rips Through Midwest Causing Deaths and Damage

A May 19 cloudburst and cyclone cause extensive damage across Indiana Illinois and surrounding regions. Indianapolis reports wrecked signs broken windows and many injuries while Peoria suffers floods and over 200 marooned residents. Death tolls exceed 15 with losses over 5 million dollars and railroad washouts hamper service. In Gainesville a boy drowns while fishing.

Panhandle Grain Dealers Meet Opens With Strong Attendance

The Panhandle Grain Dealers Association opens at 10 o clock in the American Legion club rooms Amarillo with likely record attendance. Members will hear crop reports production and price notes plus discussions on car service and transportation facilities for grain movement nationally.

Edith Bishop Cleared of Murder Charge in Oklahoma City

Edith Bishop was acquitted of murdering her husband Luther Bishop, a state detective, in December. She collapsed in tears as the verdict was read and planned to return to Britton to resume church work, vowing to search for his killer if needed. The jury deliberated seven hours across seven ballots.
