Youth faces charge after hold up action
Formal burglary charges filed Monday against Robert Cornelius in Justice court. Bond set at $750 awaiting grand jury action. Case stems from May 6 attempted robbery of Vaden Brothers Service Station at Sixth Ave and Georgia St. Jeff Vaden owner held at gunpoint but no money taken. no shots fired. Cornelius arrested in Moore County about 80 miles from Amarillo. He says he came from Portales New Mexico and lived at 413 Madison St. He names Earl Cutter, 21, from Illinois, as a companion who is jailed and denies the charge. The third youth is dead from self-inflicted death in a Texas town. Cornelius says he has no prior record.

Special to The News Ralls May 18 Mrs Wes Anthony of the Owens Community eight miles south of Ralls received a severe cut on the head and numerous body bruises when the house in which she and her four children were in was demolished by a cyclone this afternoon The children were not injured The cyclone struck only the one house and as far as known no one else was hurt Rains ranged from a quarter inch to an inch over most of the Ralls trade territory with hail doing slight damage in some sections.

Hereford Youth Fails At Airplane Bootlegging Court Case
Clyde Renfro a 23 year old Hereford flier admitted to selling and transporting liquor in a Prohibition era bootlegging scheme. He received an 18 month suspended sentence on one count and 30 days in jail on another, with a $500 fine on possession. The airplane valued at 2500 was to be forfeited to Prohibition authorities. Highway 5 North to Canadian River Construction Underway
Potter County crews begin grade and drainage on 5.7 mile segment of Highway 5 from Amarillo Creek to the Canadian River. Field Brothers and McCelvey own the contract. The route preserves most of the present line but eliminates sharp curves and saves about a half mile. Completion is projected for August under resident engineer Oscar A. Seward who will oversee the work. Survey from the river north to the county line is finished and bids will soon be sought.
