In Sayre Oklahoma on May 16 a father tried to save his two children Kathrine age 10 and Tommy age 11 Paxton from the Red River flood near a SH 30 bridge north of Erick. The bridge gave way and the family and others were swept into the river. Kathrine drowned and Tommy disappeared after an undertow pulled him away as rescuers including Peggy Cornell 17 and Carolyn 14 assisted. Authorities said the river had crested around 7 p.m. and stood three to four feet below the U.S. Highway 66 bridge.
