In Borger on May 15, the 130 day strike by Oil, Chemical and Atomic Workers Local 3463 at Phillips Copolymer Plant formally neared closure as 204 members voted to accept the company proposal. A contract signing with union and company officials is planned for Tuesday at 10 am after a 271-67 rejection earlier and a letter to 440 strikers to return or risk replacement.
May 15 AP report says U S military officials estimate 37 Soviet missile pads and 35 to 50 long range war rockets ready to fire with at least 10 pads linked to the T3 thermonuclear missile. Also 14 Soviet factories identified. US stockpiles 59 missiles, incl 32 Polaris.

In McAllen Texas farmers say field prices of two cents a pound for Rio Grande Valley tomatoes contrast with 39 cents a pound in stores. They note San Antonio shipments fetch up to 29 cents, and urge higher returns to keep small growers in business. Investigator Brooks Robertson may report anti trust concerns to DOJ and FTC.

The Senate State Affairs Committee approved a $314 million general tax package for debate including a 2 percent general sales tax. The proposal would raise $285 million in 1962 63 with the levy, $21.4 million by extending the current temporary franchise tax increase, and $7.2 million by boosting the drivers license act by 56 percent.
