In Washington last Saturday night Adm. James O. Richardson praised his sister Mary Moss Richardson of Canyon a retired West Texas State College teacher for helping 54 students through school. The elder Richardson said his sister influenced more people for good than he did after fifty years in the Navy. A letter from Pampa reflected on juvenile trouble and rural life, recalling Hannibal Missouri and a rooster on the front page of a newspaper endorsing a candidate.
A CF-100 fighter crashed into the St Louis Val convent near Ottawa killing more than 25 nuns a priest and the crew as flames raged through the four story building. Local residents helped evacuate survivors while two men and others risked their lives climbing the fire escape to rescue nuns. More bodies were expected as search continued.

Fire officials suspect arson in a two‑alarm blaze that destroyed Galle Studio and living quarters at 1614 Taylor in Amarillo. The first fire at 12:40 a.m. was minor, but a second, rear‑line blaze four hours later caused total loss. Gene Galle, ballet instructor, owned the building and planned to rebuild.

A Nevada arrest leads Potter County deputies to seek extradition for Helen Campbell and Harry Campbell, charged with forgery across multiple cities. Tellers identified Mrs Campbell in Las Vegas after two counterfeit checks totaling 350 dollars were cashed May 9 at the First National Bank. The couple’s two children were placed in a Nevada detention home, and state officials must sign the extradition paperwork.
Washington May 15 Secretary Dulles and Secretary Wilson warned the United States must stay vigilant as Soviet leaders announce a plan to cut 1 200 000 armed forces. They warned the move might not reduce Soviet power and could boost atomic weapon production.
U S Army sources say Russia has modernized with a deadly new family of weapons including two atomic artillery pieces and other mobile warfare gear. They claim the Red Army is organized for offensive atomic battlefields with upgraded trucks, a giant helicopter and amphibious vehicles.
The missing wife Evelyn T. Scott 63 sparked a sprawling inquiry. Her husband L Ewing Scott 59 failed to appear for arraignment on forgery and grand theft charges linked to her estate prompting a nationwide manhunt. Police found connections to bank accounts safe deposit boxes and a $170000 gap in the estate while a car with a bullet hole surfaced. An ongoing investigation continues with more witnesses due May 29.
Flood waters claimed the lives of Bobby Lowe age 4 and Dwayne Lowe age 9 near Cassville Missouri as heavy rains eased. A creek branch became a deadly current sweeping both boys who were attempting to help each other. their brother Johnny age 6 witnessed the drownings. The disaster damaged roads and bridges across southern Missouri and northern Arkansas.
