Cowboys from New Mexico Canada North Panhandle and Caprock regions travel to Amarillo for a 500 rider parade. At 9 30 tomorrow they gather at Third Avenue and Grant Street, then move west at ten minutes before 10 o'clock with riders paired off.
The News-Globe offers 5 dollars to the best amateur photo of the Jim Farley horse parade, with entries due at the News-Globe office before 6 pm Thursday. A newsstaff committee will judge, with final decisions binding. prints may be returned upon request. The article also notes the Arabian horse named Dynamite will be presented to Postmaster General Farley, described as gentle and aristocratic.
In Austin on May 15 a remittance bill transferring state property taxes to counties for five years advanced to third reading with a wide margin, while attempts to suspend rules failed. The measure would siphon about 8.5 million dollars annually from the general fund, which remains in the red, and Galveston County was briefly excluded from remission.
The West Texas Chamber of Commerce advances a campaign to end discriminatory freight rates with Jim Wilson of Floydada as president and D A Bandeen as executive secretary. A plan to fund rate revision and defend industries includes a cotton lab and school fund reforms as the Panhandle Grain and Feed Dealers warn Johnson grass may cut Panhandle income by six to ten million dollars annually.
In Harlan Kentucky a non union miner was killed and guardsmen patrolled multiple mines amid renewed negotiations with John L. Lewis's United Mine Workers. Operators refused to sign the New York agreement citing a union shop clause while talks aimed at three area coal firms continued.
A grand parade on Third Avenue will honor Postmaster General James A. Farley and the new Amarillo post office. The Uncle Sam Band from Happy leads bands spaced along the route with Amarillo’s two top high school bands and groups from about a dozen towns. Col. E. A. Simpson rides Dynamite as parade marshal at the front.
Governor John E. Miles and a detachment of New Mexico’s mounted patrol depart Santa Fe for Amarillo Texas to attend the dedication of a new post office building. Postmaster General James A. Farley will be the principal speaker. The patrol, led by Captain Homer Bigelow, travels with horses on an automobile trailer and is escorted by state police.
Gov. John E. Miles will head a Sunshine State delegation with 30 mounted troopers. New Mexico towns Portales Tucumcari Clayton Santa Fe and others will be represented. Dalhart XIT Ranch and Canadian rodeo riders from Anvil Park join communities like Hereford Happy Groom Dumas Vega Plainview. Mr Farley arrives at Rock Island station from Oklahoma City at 8 tomorrow morning.
Dalhart plans a grand parade for Amarillo's post office dedication tomorrow. Postmaster Jack Wade vows the Dalhart contingent will dominate the event with about 75 horsemen and participation from surrounding towns.
M. T. Hap Johnson, president of the Panhandle Livestock Association, urged Sen. Tom Connally in a telegram to oppose President Roosevelt's order for the navy to buy canned beef from Argentina. The group, a longtime opponent of South American beef imports, cites inconsistency and potential penalties to the Texas cattle industry.
Secretary Henry A. Wallace announced no marketing quota will be proclaimed for wheat this year. He estimated total wheat supply on July 1 at 74 million bushels with carry over to fall about 270 million from last year, and a 1939 crop near 704 million bushels.

A Swedish flyer named Charles Bachman left Bangor at 6 45 A M in a tiny mono coupe described as a flying gas tank. He carried 160 gallons of gasoline a few sandwiches and a bottle of coffee and planned a non stop flight to Newfoundland and then to his homeland.
Partly cloudy and warm Tuesday in Amarillo and vicinity with generally fair conditions across Texas and New Mexico. Temperatures show a high near 83 and a low around 33 to 41 degrees with readings from yesterday and hourly details noted.
Eldridge Foster, a Pringer ranch cowboy near Dalhart, suffers a second thigh fracture after a prior fracture when a horse fell on him. Three months ago he broke his thigh and after hospital release he went downtown on crutches and then fainted, leading to another fracture.
Heavy thundershowers caused moisture in the Panhandle with widespread rain from last week and earlier this month. Shamrock saw three-quarter inch rain with hail minor damage. Memphis had about a half inch. Sho wers hit Hedley Estelline Childress Wellington Magic City and Turkey Quitaque area. Canyon recorded three quarters to one inch. Clovis Portales Texico Tucumcari also reported rain while Adrian Ada and Magenta had only sprinkles. Rain continued late night in the area.
Amarillo Rotarians will stage their first Rotary Night at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Allen Early on Harrison Street. Eighty five entertainers will perform while about 350 to 400 attendees including visiting Rotarians and notables will be present. The event will be broadcast on KGNC from 10 15 p m to 4 a m with Cal Farley as host and leaders from Wichita Falls Plainview and Elk City among guests.
