Regulation of Oil Remedies Urged in Amarillo Meeting

Campaigns for Amarillo Methodist college raise funds as new committees may be named to solicit $25 000 leaders. Proposals to regulate oil production and impose imports tariffs were debated at a West Texas Chamber of Commerce Oil and Gas bureau meeting in Amarillo with about 75 operators in attendance.

Tri Motored Fokker May Be Delayed

A large tri motor Fokker costing 80000 dollars making a New York to Los Angeles cross country flight may arrive in Amarillo today but could be delayed until Thursday. It was forced down at Indianapolis by a rainstorm yesterday. Wesley Izzard of The News Globe is in Wichita to ride the plane into Amarillo.

Realtor Freed of Swindling Charge Here

Charges of swindling were dismissed against J. H. Clark a Denver real estate man after he was arrested on a Potter county warrant. District Attorney W. J. Flesher moved to drop the case when Clark explained a gas deposit of 2353.50 remained with Amarillo Gas Co. and would be returned to Mrs. Kathleen Hall as assignee once the Gables investment earns 8 percent. Hall had accused Clark of misappropriating the funds while developing the 40 acre Gables tract.

Tri-Motored Plane Returns to Shreveport After Fault

The Ford tri-motored transport plane of the army air service returned to Shreveport Louisiana after departing with 21 other planes for maneuvers at Fort Sill Oklahoma. Motor trouble surfaced soon after takeoff and a few days will be needed for repairs as pilot Lieut. Eugene Eubanks and crew accompany two reporters.

Panhandle grain dealers meet in Amarillo one day

Panhandle Grain Dealers Association holds a one day session in Amarillo with expected attendance of 150 plus dealers from Texas and Oklahoma. Three Texas factions claim state control of Democratic convention

Dallas May 15 three Texas Democratic factions each claim sufficient strength to control the state convention at Beaumont next Tuesday. Ultra dry leader Thomas B Love put his group at 42 votes and 330 RIS votes, Moody harmony Democrata at 126, Smith forces at 162. Smith campaign head T F Monroe disputed with 305 votes for his side.

Tornado Strikes Childress House Off Foundation

In Childress Texas on May 15 a small tornado felled from a spiral cloud, lifting a house from its foundation and causing heavy furniture damage. John Reynolds and his wife and three children escaped serious injuries, though dishes shattered in the kitchen. Only their home was reported affected.

Supreme Court rules on filling stations near residences

Oklahoma City May 16. The supreme court ruled that filling stations may be restricted from residential districts. In Champlin Refining Co. v H H Dugan and A B White of Garfield County the court held that if a fuel business at a given location becomes a nuisance it may be enjoined.

Seven Lives Lost in Romanian Oil Field Fire

Fire at Romanian oil fields near Bucharest killed seven people including two engineers. An explosion at Ploesti started the blaze, spreading to six wells as firefighters could not approach the flames. Villagers fled the Ocuri district while forests were felled and tunnels dug to divert oil.

Houston Builder James E. Smith Files Voluntary Bankruptcy

A voluntary bankruptcy petition was filed Tuesday in federal court for James E. Smith, a Houston builder. The filing lists assets of 461,886.21, mainly real estate and apartments in Houston, with liabilities of 304,800.68.

Accused Car Thief Caught After Escape

After a long day in district court D I Davis 19 fled from the courthouse scene near the sheriff's office and chased through Cliffside creek area with deputies and a civilian witness giving chase. Davis faced two theft charges with partners Speck Roberts Newberry and C A Newell receiving sentences. Newell got two years. Davis vanished then was eventually located after the chase.

Pretty Swisher County Widow Pleads Guilty in Booze Case

Florence Rogers a 28 year old Swisher county widow pleaded guilty in federal district court to liquor law violations arising from a kitchen range still at her home in the canyons. She was fined 108 dollars with 50 dollars for possession of property for manufacture and 50 dollars for design of manufacture. A raid March 24 found the still in her ranch house. The case reflects hardship after her husband’s death and notes her bank note due.

City Delays Action Over Amarillo Gas Talks

The Amarillo city commission delayed approving industrial gas piping permits amid a Prairie Oil and Gas challenge to domestic rates. Prairie officials argued a new contract would raise household prices, while asserting Amarillo Gas, Panhandle Pipeline and Amarillo Oil are not earning profits and have invested heavily in future gas reserves.
