May 14 report states snipers fired into the home of George Roy Baker, a former rebel against Chicago Coal Teamsters Chanting and Helpers Union. No injuries reported though walls were damaged in multiple rooms.
Mexico City experienced two tremors at about 4 12 A M and 7 10 A M on May 14 with the first quake described as fairly strong. No damage was reported.
Miss Beth Keller, a stenographer for Governor Alf M. Landon, fielded a long distance call from the President's office. She insisted the governor would not talk until the caller was ready, describing the moment as her most embarrassing. Roosevelt’s office did not wait.
In Vienna tonight clashes between the Fascist Heimwehr and Austrian Nazis and Socialists left several wounded and about 400 arrested for booing during a parade of Heimwehr units. Earlier the crowd gathered at Schoenbrunn Park to mark Vienna’s Turkish siege anniversary as Chancellor Dolfuss praised his government.

In Dallas May 14, Texas Democratic state executive committee members arriving for an upcoming meeting showed growing support for C McDonald of Wichita Falls as the national committeeman to succeed Jed C Adams who resigned to join the Federal Board of Tax Appeals. Former Gov James Ferguson and proxies held by Ray Young and C F Richards bolster McDonald’s bid as Maury Hughes of Dallas leads the committee. Ferguson said he supports McDonald from start to finish.
Flood waters from heavy rains inundated southern Ohio and Kentucky causing four deaths and widespread crop damage. The Ohio River rose past 52 feet in Cincinnati and neared 56 as record rainfall drenched Cincinnati. Evacuations were readied and families stranded as waters reached doorsteps at Cincinnati and Newport and a cloudburst near Pomeroy destroyed homes.
In Poona on May 144 the Mahatma Gandhi ended a long estrangement with his eldest son Hirsidas Gandhi during the seventh day of his fast. He welcomed Hirsidas and Mrs. Gandhi at Lady Thackersey’s villa, patted him, and exchanged brief words before lapsing into silence. Mrs. Gandhi’s release from Yerada jail accompanied the reunion and Gandhi’s day of silence was waived. The public condition reported as satisfactory.
