C S Lambie a key Amarillo builder and civic figure died at home at age 86 after leading the C S Lambie Construction Co until 1960. He was born February 3 1880 in Pittsburgh Pa married Margaret McCandless in 1904 and later moved to Denver to run a construction business. Funeral at Westminster Presbyterian Church with burial in Llano Cemetery.
Washington report says Representative Walter Rogers and three Midwestern lawmakers were labeled puppets of President Johnson by the conservative ACA. ACA director Charles A. McManus said they shifted votes in the House to ensure passage of the rent subsidy plan.
Today marks examination day for the first of about one million college and graduate students seeking deferment. Some 350 000 to 400 000 volunteers will take a three hour 150 question test at 1 200 colleges and universities nationwide. Additional groups total around 600 000 will test on May 21 June 3 and June 24 under a government contract with Science Research Associates.

A letter listing 103 transfer requests from Carver High School students to whites-only high schools arrived at the Amarillo public school office. The SMART effort involved top students and college alumni, with NAACP guidance limited to moral support. Transfers fall under 1966 HEW desegregation guidelines and could press district to decide Carver’s fate.
The Associated Texas Democrats stage their county conventions today amid signals the conservative liberal split will flare in many counties. State Democratic Chairman Will Davis predicted that Gov. John Connallys conservative forces will gain ground.
Conventions set tonight in Potter County, Randall County, and Dallas area to name delegates for the September state meeting. Conservatives expect heavy gains in San Antonio and Harris, Jefferson, McLennan, and Galveston counties while Connally forces vie for a majority at the state convention.
