Amarillo gears up for the West Texas Chamber of Commerce convention in June with over 50 000 expected attendees. Bill Flenniken was named general committee chair. dozens of committee heads were appointed to manage housing finance parades bands decorations and entertainments. Local leaders promise ample rooms eating facilities and hospitality across the city.

He had been captured May 4 in Channing and held on burglary tools and dangerous substances.
Two Amarillo stenographers testified they bought beer from Lizzie May Brown an 18 year old Negro woman who was convicted of manufacture possession and sale of intoxicants. The jury deliberated 45 minutes sentencing Brown to a year and a day in prison while the stenographers received fines for drunkenness. Brown appeared unperturbed during the trial and chewed gum as witnesses testified.
Berlin May 13 Dr Otto Gessler, senior ex minister from the Luther cabinet, was named by President von Hindenburg to serve as temporary chancellor amid the cabinet resignation.
The House advanced the Haugen price stabilization bill slowly amid delays and 18 amendments. Amendments seek farm consent thresholds and aims to peel back features, with leaders forecasting a vote after Pennsylvania primary day as Tincher supporters plan a timing strategy.
The status of De. J. Frank Norris, Fort Worth Baptist pastor and Southern Baptist messenger, remained unsettled after today’s session. Norris asked if a committee report on representation rules targeted him, then retired when the president said the report applied generally.
A liquor complaint against a minister and companion from a neighboring town, filed yesterday, led to a grand jury inquiry after County Attorney H K Stanfield dismissed the charges. Sheriff Wiley Pollard and Deputy Richard Kelly said they would refile the charge and present the matter to the grand jury. The minister and companion were jailed, charged with possessing and transporting liquor, then released as Stanfield dropped booze complaints and allowed a guilty plea to disturbing the peace. Radio contact with the Amundsen-Ellsworth trans polar dirigible Norge was cut and Nome residents feared the craft may be lost. Weather worsened with a falling barometer as the ship traced a route from Spitzbergen toward Point Barrow.
In Seattle and Nome, anticipation runs high as Roald Amundsen and his Norge voyage remain silent. Reports from St Paul Island indicate five wireless calls, last at 2 29 a m EST, with confusion over timing and a possible later arrival near Camp Lewis. Nome prepares for a grand welcome and a 100 man team stood by to assist landing the craft. Norge translates to Norway in the native tongue, a patriotic naming by Amundsen.
In Juneau at noon on May 13 radio operators aboard the steamer Northwestern said a radio from Iditarod told Fairbanks it had heard the dirigible Norge call Nome every five minutes during its Spitzbergen to Nome polar flight. A local land station says it heard no messages from the air ship all day.
Friday outlook for Amarillo and vicinity shows generally fall with warmer temps in northern areas. West Texas and New Mexico expect showers in the north with warmer conditions in the extreme east portions by late day Friday.
