Communist led workers and youths clash with police in Hong Kong on Friday. rioters burn buses and cars and damage shops as protests flare anew. police attempt to restore order amid the unrest.
Amarillo mayor city commissioners and local businessmen returned Friday from a two day tour of phased out Air Force bases at Waco and Salina Kan. The trip highlighted regional economic impacts and future development prospects.
House Appropriations panel endorses a 1968 independent offices bill totaling 10,032,905,900 in expenditures a 7.1 percent cut from the requested 10,804,642,700. The panel trims model cities urban renewal and public housing funds and notes war in Vietnam driving costs up. Veterans benefits remain the largest item with 93.5 million people served. Major reductions include HUD down to 1,872,765,000 and model cities at 327,000,000. Chairman Mahon says substantial cuts are achieved.

U.S. fighter-bombers struck a storage site four miles north of Hanoi and the Ha Cong army barracks four miles southwest of the city, in the second May attack on Ha Cong. Venezuela reports intercepting a 12 man guerrilla landing force led by Fidel Castro army officers. The party leader was said killed. Two Cubans captured described as Manuel Gil Castellanos and Pedro Cabrera Torres testified at a news conference. Authorities recovered more than $9,000 on the fallen leader and four packs of supplies plus a Soviet rifle.
Sen. Birch Bayh disclosed an AID report by Norbert Tablyn alleging that millions of dollars worth of antibiotics were diverted from South Vietnam under the foreign aid program. He said 27,000 kilos of broad spectrum antibiotics entered Vietnam in 1966, with chloramphenicol making up 70 percent, despite being least used globally.
In Hannibal Missouri two youths and a friend, Joey Hoag Billy Hoag and Craig Dowell, vanished after entering Murphy s Cave. Rescue teams aided by National Guardsmen and police dogs explored rockfalls and new passages but concluded Murphy s Cave likely not the boys shelter.
Texas Rangers charged farm labor organizer Eugene Nelson with threatening a Ranger and arresting him in Starr County Texas. Nelson, held on 2000 bond, had aided the United Farm Workers organizing drive in the Lower Rio Grande Valley. Mexican police dispersed 10 pickets on the riverfront to deter workers from crossing for field work.
In San Francisco a judge who found Swartz guilty of bigamy performs the ceremony making Amada Montalvo wife No. 8. Swartz, an Oakland barber, must undergo a 90 day psychiatric study after the marriage. The couple will not have a honeymoon. Swartz returns to jail.
