Hopes Sink in Railway Strike Mediation Board Efforts

Chicago May 12 The National Mediation Board chairman Francis O'Neill Jr said the locomotive firemen strike remains deadlocked with no new offer from the union. Earlier a reported peace offer raised hopes before the board revived talks with railroads and the union. Union leaders in Atlanta expressed hope while the board described peace efforts as hopeless earlier in the week.

Saucer Sighted At Tradewind Airport Landing

Bobby Hunter a 19 year old night worker at Tradewind Airport watched a flying saucer land within 125 feet then depart with a roar. He described a football shaped craft with a notch and a pipe like projection, noting a burned patch on the grass. The object vanished as he woke a pilot and returned to the hangar.

Fire Ravages Borger Warehouse Apartment Building

A lightning starting fire in Borger damaged a two story wooden apartment and one story brick warehouse, destroying contents valued at 47 000 and warehouse stock plus 13 000 building value, with total damage around 60 000. Firemen struggled to control late into the night. The premises belonged to B R Anderson with Frank Jennings leasing part of the warehouse and Byron Cox family residing in the tower.

Explosions Hit American Cyanamid Plant in Bridgeville

Two blasts rocked the American Cyanamid Company chemical plant in Bridgeville Pennsylvania. Police and fire units responded. two men were slightly injured and telephone lines to the plant were knocked out. A fireman at borough hall called it a mighty bad explosion.

Showers Hit Tri-State Area Amid Light Rain Prospects

Scattered showers dampened the Tri-State area late Friday with little expectation of more rain. Roswell reported 1.75 inches, while Borger saw hail and rain and a warehouse fire near the Santa Fe depot caused about $60,000 in damage.
