London observers hail the coronation as a gleaming opportunity to showcase Britain to the world. The empire’s recovery from 1929, high taxation, and a sweeping rearmament plan of up to 7.5 billion pounds shape a confident national mood despite strikes and international boycotts.
The death of Judge R Walker Hall chief justice of the Seventh Court of Civil Appeals ends a 26 year service on the bench. Funeral services set for 10 am at Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home with Bishop E Cecil Seaman delivering the sermon. Burial at Llano Cemetery Amarillo. In Dallas Sam Hick man shot in the armpit rushes the hospital on foot. He grins and says he cannot wait for an ambulance. The incident follows a scuffle where emergency staff arrived after the event.

New York May 11 Leona Ulric famed for Lulu Belle is recovering in hospital from a foot infection and fatigue. Her attorney David Stillman said she entered Doctors Hospital last Friday but left tonight to rest at her home in Harmon New York.
Hutchinson County grand jury returns 25 indictments in the April 6 election irregularities. Sheriff Dan Hardee says all arrests are released on bond: felonies at 1000 and misdemeanors at 500. Named defendants include Lloyd McCann John Farmer L F Williams J T McNellis Joe Grubbs The Rogers Dave Brandon H V Farmer G C Harney E L Lantron and others with charges covering poll tax payments illegally arresting voters interfering with ballots and conspiracy to alter ballots.
The nude mutilated body of 45 year old Charles O’Keefe a chemical engineer at California Chemical Corporation Newark plant was found on the Newark Centerville highway south of Hayward. Motorists reported seeing a nude man running along the road shouting for help and tire prints showed a car was driven over the body multiple times.
Mrs. F. M. Carter 61, a Plainview pioneer and wife of a prominent merchant, died when her car collided with a truck eleven miles north of Plainview. Three other Plainview women, including Miss Nell Berry in critical condition, were seriously injured. truck driver P. G. Alexander slightly hurt. The crash occurred about 7:30 PM while returning from Amarillo, just south of Kress.
U. S. Ambassador William F. Dodd said he notified Senators Bulkley and Glass that wealthy individuals seek a U S dictatorship and would back a huey long style power grab. He cited a man with about one billion dollars ready to support such a plan and to control it.
West Texas Chamber of Commerce delegates heard bids for the 1938 convention from Wichita Falls and Abilene, praised soil and water conservation, and honored Miss Inez Mayor of Denton as queen. 10,000 people watched a band parade as 84 musicians led the Coleman unit.
Amarillo grainmen expect the Panhandle to supply 20 to 26 million bushels of the Texas 41 million bushel winter wheat forecast. They cite improved moisture and prices, with a possible national bumper crop since 1931. Davis calls the 41 million high while Barlow sees 25 million and 90 cents to $1 a bushel.
The Tyler Morning Telegraph reports petitions by 222 London Consolidated School patrons urge President Roosevelt to order an investigation into the March 18 explosion that killed hundreds of students and teachers. A second petition from 109 parents seeks action. 113 more withholds their children from class. A third petition, signed by 323 patrons, asks Superintendent W. C. Shaw to resign.
Public Steel Corp held a two hour conference with representatives of the steel workers organizing committee which has threatened a strike of its 52 000 employees and afterward reiterated it sees no necessity to sign a contract with the committee for industrial organization affiliate.
Rainy London buzzes with crowds awaiting the ceremony as George VI and Queen Elizabeth prepare for coronation. Processions move toward Westminster Abbey. traffic snarls persist with bunmen strike halting bus service. Guards escort the state's $30 million crown jewels into the Abbey for the royal rite.
