Dallas Journal reports Mrs. Henry Barrow mother of Clyde Barrow was abducted from West Dallas by four men believed to be state rangers or highway patrolmen. She was held about 100 miles from Dallas and questioned about her son's whereabouts as authorities seek to capture him.
Wichita Falls officers and state police hunted roads around Wichita Falls for Clyde Barrow after a farmer reported seeing a man with a pistol in a light Ford V-8. No trace was found and Barrow’s trail into Archer County was denied. Mrs Barrow called before Dallas grand jury. federal prosecutors to consider indicting relatives of Barrow and Bonnie Parker for harboring them.
A special Dallas group arrives by train at 9 50 this morning for the 33rd annual excursion sponsored by the Dallas Chamber of Commerce. Henry W Stanley will join the welcome parade with a 30 piece band. City officials greet the visitors at Fort Worth and Denver station before a downtown parade.
Texas division delegates urge urgent steps to complete the transcontinental Highway 60 from Higgins to Farwell. A right of way already secured for east 14 miles in Parmer County, actions to secure westward access argued, with some boosters pressing for a survey from Friona to the state line despite local opposition.
Straw hat day encourages Amarillo shoppers to replace old felt hats with new straw styles. Merchants report abundant straw stock in latest braids, colors, and shapes with reasonable prices. The message urges buyers to feel cool and collected in the season’s headwear.

From Canyon to the Texas New Mexico line rains ranged from one quarter to one inch, Dawn area reporting an inch, Friona and Black a half inch, Hereford Canyon and Texico a quarter inch. On May 11 violence flared as striking longshoremen picketed the Houston ship channel for 11 days. Ralph Langrave, 42, was shot in the leg, and John Elmore, 31, a bystander, was shot in the stomach.
Samuel Insull Sr is free on a 250000 bail posted by friends after leaving Cook County jail. He rests at St Luke's hospital overlooking Michigan Boulevard under watchful care while facing federal charges and a state embezzlement case. His son says the hospital stay is to help him recover from the strain of the past three days.
Transcontinental West air service will resume with four Ford tri motor ships daily through Amarillo carrying passengers mail and express. Schedule from Newark to Los Angeles and back places Amarillo 16 hours from the east coast and 10 hours from the west coast.
May 11 report describes a Black suspect firing from behind a tree near Diamond, La. The man fatally injures two people and then is wounded by a New Orleans police officer after a five hour standoff with officers and residents nearby.

State and national park officials observe cornerstone laying at Palo Duro State Park lodge site 25 miles southeast of Amarillo at 2:30 PM. David Colp will level the stone while Mayor Ross Rogers serves as master of ceremonies. The ceremony marks access to the lodge under Spring Creek draw with CCC workers previously on site.
In Austin on May 11 the Third Court of Civil Appeals received the appeal in the Texas Relief Commission dispute between Julius Dorenfield Jr. of Amarillo and R L Holliday of El Paso. Coke Stevenson named Holliday, then removed him, and Dorenfield was named as successor. Holliday challenged Stevenson's authority. the district court upheld Holliday. Dorenfield appealed as motions to certify questions accompanied the filing.
Relief Administrator Harry L Hopkins told Washington that if rains do not arrive soon the Federal Emergency Relief Administration will provide extended relief and pursue a cattle buying program to aid West and Southwest drouth areas. He avoided a dollar estimate but promised adequate funds and ongoing monitoring.
William Ellis Corey, 68, noted industrialist and former president of United States Steel, died at his Fifth Avenue home after a two month illness attributed to pneumonia. His son A. L. Corey and brother Alfred A. Corey, Jr. were present. Corey rose from early steel work to succeed Charles M. Schwab as general superintendent of Homestead Steel Works before leading U. S. Steel.
President Roosevelt said the United States would not join a general world debts conference. He favored selective discussions with individual debtor nations and would consider offers of partial payments on debts on a bilateral basis with merit-based review.
Dallas Judge Noland G. Williams dismissed the nearly two day deliberating jury in the Raymond Hamilton case. The panel stood 10 to 2 for death, two jurors favoring life, blocking the death penalty for the Grand Prairie Bank robbery and habitual criminal charge. Prosecutors may pursue death in other counties if Hamilton is not executed there.
Galveston May 11 1943 Nearly all of the 5000 Longshoremen at Texas ports and Lake Charles La will return to work at 8 oclock tomorrow morning as a labor contract is settled M J Dwyer president of the International Longshoremen s Association in the Gulf announced late today The union will still refuse to handle vessels of the Luckenbach Line and three coastwise lines Clyde Mallory Southern Steamship Company and Moore McCormick Agreement has been reached with all other lines including deep sea West Indies intercoastal and coastwise lines
Los Angeles authorities reported shifting ransom demands in the William F. Gettle kidnapping. An initial $75,000 offer from the family was met with a separate demand of $40,000 to the victim's invalid wife. A second anonymous phone call urged Noon to place an ad in a morning paper, while officials hoped for a 24 hour breakthrough as Gettle’s captors remained at large.
San Angelo May 11 L G Deuran indicted for murder by Concho County grand jury in the fatal clubbing of Bill Johnson a Brady highway employee. Bond set at eight thousand dollars but not posted. Grand jury also returned five sheep theft indictments and two cattle theft indictments.
R. M. Todd is charged with theft over $50 in a Wichita Falls case filed by Assistant District Attorney George W. Anderson. The theft involved three automobiles that were later recovered in Abilene. Todd is currently jailed in Lubbock.
