Two male teenagers tried to rob the Dodgin Brothers Texaco Station at Ninth and Bushland. They struck Jim Dodgin, 20, with a rubber tipped hammer and fled in a car after a failed knockout blow. Dodgin described a planned entry and escape by three youths, one about 17 and another about 19, around 9 10 PM.
Secretary of the Army Stevens accused Senator McCarthy of exaggerating Communist threats in the Army while McCarthy charged Stevens with a selective memory. The Senate inquiry into the McCarthy Pentagon row faced proposals to shorten the 13 day televized hearing as Republicans and Democrats prepared votes. Mundt chaired the subcommittee as party divisions emerged over the plan to curb the probe.

West Texas may see locally severe thunderstorms east portion of South Plains and Pecos Valley then clearing. Panhandle and South Plains warmer Tuesday and Wednesday, not as hot elsewhere.
In a tight MLB contest, Cleveland and New York finish tied at 7 all. Baltimore and Philadelphia also combine to a 7 to 6 score in another weekday clash.
Voters in South Amarillo who live in Randall County must vote twice as the county line runs along 29th Avenue. Those south of the line are in Randall County and should check their poll tax receipt or exemption certificate to determine polling requirements.
Amarillo voters face seven issues in city and Randall County bond elections today. Precincts list polling venues from Randall County Courthouse to Alice Landergin School and Lamar School for split districts. Eligible voters must hold 1953 poll tax receipts or valid exemptions and own taxable property.
The 275000 street improvement issue covers widening Grand Street from Tenth Avenue to the Dallas Highway and from Third Avenue to North East Eighth Avenue plus other street work and city participation in future paving projects.
