A 22 year old Claude man died when his car overturned on U S 287 about four miles east of here. Harold Thompson, the sole occupant, died en route to North Texas Hospital. Police said high winds contributed to the crash and Thompson was thrown from the car. Funeral arrangements are pending with N S Griggs and Sons Funeral Directors.

City Infant Crushed By Father's Truck
A 21 month old boy died after being crushed beneath the rear wheel of his father’s pickup at their Hodges Street home. The father backed the truck to load an air conditioner and says the child crawled under the vehicle. He found the infant under the wheel and rushed him to St Anthony’s Hospital where he died of head injuries. The mother, eight months pregnant, was treated for shock and remained in fair condition.

Sudden Sunday squalls on the Plains caused boating accidents at Lake Meredith and Ute Lake. Marvin Chapley, 45, Grover, was lost after falling overboard while towing a skier. Two Vega residents, Tom Green and Sam Dobbs, 18, missing after their boat was pushed to shore and they sought help. Sheriff said strong wind around 6 p.m. capsized the craft.

Windstorm lashes Panhandle with 70 mph gusts in Amarillo area
A late Sunday squall line battered the Panhandle with wind gusts up to 70 mph. An Amarillo patrolman spotted a tornado east of the city but it did not touch ground. Boise City Oklahoma recorded two hours of heavy rain and small hail with no damage. Downed power lines and damaged trailers prompted traffic detours while crews shut off power and began repairs. A portable building toppled at Morgan Portable Homes and a vacant trailer was upended at Edgewood Trailer Park.

Clues Sought In Air Crash At Hanover Airport
FAA investigators John Doster and Raymond Whitehead inspected the charred wreckage of a 1944 Howard DGA after a crash at New Hanover Airport over a parachute contest. The plane carried a pilot, four Navy personnel, two local youths, and five novice parachutists when it spun from 1,000 feet during takeoff.

Air Attacks Cut Main Routes Into Hanoi
U S air attacks since mid April have interdicted all main arteries into Hanoi from Haiphong and from China. An Air Force spokesman said supplies will slow as routes are bypassed by boats or barges. Aerial photos show destruction to bridges and highways entering Hanoi from four directions.

Six formers run secret cellar club at Blundells School
Six Blundells School students built a private night club beneath a dormitory, stocked with beer and liquor and hooked into the school's electric system. City Pioneer Dead at 82 A Amarillo cattleman and stock show organizer passes
William M. Gouldy died Sunday night at St. Anthony's Hospital at age 82 after a heart attack. A Hereford breeder and longtime Amarillo leader, he helped organize the Tri State Fair and Amarillo Fat Stock Show before their 1954 merger and served on the fair board since 1922. Born June 8, 1883 in Turnersville Coryell County Texas, he moved to Amarillo in 1903 and began in the mercantile business in 1904.
