Blackshear Receives Death Penalty for Texas Slayings
Barney Blackshear, 23, was sentenced to death by a jury in May for the double slayings of Mrs. George Brimberry and her husband near Arp in East Texas. Police said he beat the man with a wrench and used a flat iron on the woman at the Brimberry home. The state argued Blackshear believed a large sum of money was hidden in the house. The jury verdict came at 10:30 A.M. after last night’s deliberations.

Wharton Texas May 8 An alleged extortionist wounded by Texas rangers was held here today as Ranger Captain Light Townsend led a search for at least two other men implicated. The wounded man was shot by Ranger W L Dial near a creek two miles from Louise where banker Leverage Stockton had left a dummy package.
