Sister Antonio of St Pauls sanitarium in Dallas criticizes nurses mixing fashion with uniforms in her paper Constructive Criticism of Private Nurses read by Mrs Laura Marr at the G N A convention. Mrs Marr presents My Younger Sisters advocating proper attitude toward student nurses as senior nurses contribute to round table discussion.
Representative Tilson predicted the House would not accept the export debenture plan. The Senate voted 47 to 44 to keep the plan in its farm relief bill despite Hoover’s objections. Two Democrats defected to oppose elimination, while Republicans warned of conference hurdles and timing delays.
Special to The News recalls R H Hamilton a Baylor University professor and Baylor alum. Jury selection is expected to take time due to the punishment severity.
In Washington western lawmakers push for a tariff on hides freed by the new tariff bill. Leather manufacturers from key states plan to unite against the move while Hudspeth of Texas supports a hide tariff, signaling a party split days into the debate.
United States senate interstate commerce committee unanimously approved Oscar B. Colquitt former Texas governor for the United States board of mediation. The nomination was presented by the United Press with confirmation on May 8.
A $25 cash reward is offered for the return of Peggy owned by Mrs. A. L. Mathis of McLean. The dog was last with a middle aged woman in hiking clothes who took it toward Amarillo after a ride from a Chevrolet coupe. Peggy is a high value, blooded dog. Mathis bought it for $150 as a puppy.

Marshall Ratliff who wore Santa Claus garb in the December 23 1927 Cisco bank holdup lost his appeal from a death sentence for murder. The case involved two accomplices, one killed in a running gunfight, and two police officers killed. The trio obtained 12900 dollars, two young girls were used as shields, and later arrested after the car was abandoned. A rehearing was granted in James Powell’s case.
Directors yesterday elected B. C. D. Cotten as president of the Board of City Development. He will assume duties immediately and lead the agency in its ongoing projects.
Tom Cotten was chosen president of the Board of City Development at yesterday's directors meeting. Neal Ainsworth was named second vice-president and Fred Bone was elected first vice-president. Several secretary-manager applications were reviewed, with a full board session planned for next Thursday to finalize the organization.
Rosalinda Morini, coloratura soprano, received unprecedented acclaim at the Panhandle Music Festival in Amarillo. Her six-year career drew praise for range, volume, warmth and color as crowds encored repeatedly. She thanked Panhandle critics and vowed to please Mr Tack, before returning to Lamesa with roses from Emil Myers.
Congressman Alfred M. Michaelson of Chicago took the stand in Key West on May 8 and testified that three of six trunks he brought from Cuba on a port entry order belonged to him while three belonged to his brother in law Walter Gramm. He claimed he did not know any trunk contained liquor.
The Texas State Conference of the Bricklayers Masons and Plasterers International Union of America met at the Amarillo hotel to back union labeled products and plan a central Texas brick plant to supplement El Paso. A next convention site was chosen amid committee appointments and vacation plans.
Borger May a married couple Mr and Mrs Far l Scott indicted for murder in the April 15 shooting of Mrs Barney Turner were released on bonds of 1000 and 3000 at Stinnett They will appear before Judge Newton P Willis in the 84th district court at Stinnett June 10 for a change of venue motion Scott's bond had 18 signers all living outside Hutchinson County Mrs Scott's bond was signed by VD B Douphrate and Dyke Cullums Borger and Stinnett are mentioned as the places involved.
Francis MacMillen, violin virtuoso, appears at the municipal auditorium tonight as part of the Panhandle Magic Festival. Critics rate him among America's top violinists, with high praise from music reviewers.
Francis MacMillen the ed violinist will present a special matinee for children and music students at the municipal auditorium this afternoon during the Panhandle Music Festival. Prof Em t Myers sponsors the event and says the concert will benefit students. Accompanist to perform piano selections illustrating technique. Admission for children is 25 cents for any seat.
Five scientific teams led by US Naval Observatory Commander Keppler in Hoilo Philippines expect clear skies for a four minute total solar eclipse tomorrow. Johns Hopkins group led by Waterfield and Lloyd joins Hamburg team Beade and Schmidt near Hailo with observers from the Manila Observatory.
The Potter county grand jury returned an indictment charging R. H. Hamilton, prominent Amarillo attorney, with murder in the Walton shooting at his office last Saturday. Hamilton was arrested about an hour later at the Amarillo Building offices.
A Mrs Hamilton described the indictment of her husband in the death of her son-in-law Tom Walton Jr. as a relief the case will be tried and disposed of. She was nervous and declined to discuss travel plans with Theresa Hamilton or a potential Amarillo statement.
Hamilton was arrested within 80 minutes after the indictment was handed to the sheriff. He was taken to Potter county jail for the night as the state seeks nonbailable status. The grand jury spent three days gathering evidence before returning the indictment.
