Sau Knam Khoy, Cambodia's last president, claims Lon Nol accepted a $1 million bribery in American currency to resign and flee Phnom Penh as Khmer Rouge closed in. Khoy says the payout aimed to enable resistance, but Phnom Penh fell April 17. Nol left for Hawaii and is seeking a $100,000 home. Khoy fled to Thailand with others after the city’s fall.
About 75 people including officials and attorneys attended a Texas Health Department hearing on two proposed sanitary landfill sites in Amarillo. City Public Works Director Pat Christal said the existing NE 24th and Currie site will close after a new landfill is approved and the current area will be covered.
Ford Motor Co will shut its 64 U S assembly and manufacturing plants for two to three weeks in July to match worker vacations amid a sales slump. The plan, approved by most U A W locals, marks the first time all plants close nearly together.
