Tydings Narrowly Leads In Maryland Democratic Primary

Millard E. Tydings held a slim lead over George P. Mahoney as returns from 1,235 of 1,277 polling places showed Tydings with 137,207 votes to Mahoney's 128,118. The contest could go to the popular vote edge if nominating units remain tied, as voting launches a week of national primaries across five other states Indiana Ohio West Virginia Florida and New Mexico. Guam Pilot Dies in Crash Lt Don Boothe

Lt Don C Boothe 28? died in a plane crash at Agana Guam while serving in the Navy. He was the son of Mr and Mrs C A Boothe of 808 Mississippi and a Floydada High School and West Texas State College graduate. He earned advanced pilot wings at Corpus Christi in 1954 and later served at Pensacola and Miramar.

U.S. Opens Case Against Caudle

A conspiracy trial in St. Louis alleges Matthew J. Connelly and T. Lamar Caudle received oil royalties for aiding in an income tax evasion case. Shifts in Population Force Change Plans on Junior Highs

Amarillo School Board moved ahead with South Amarillo Junior High construction replacing the David Crockett site. A 23.5 acre parcel between 8th and Keith sold for 2,000 per acre to Jeff Neely and others. The district also approved eight classrooms at the Wolflin senior high. Mothers and fathers protested redistricting from Stephen F. Austin to Elizabeth Nixon junior high due to overcrowding at Austin. Board member M T Johnson noted Nixon has space but Austin is full and new junior highs won’t be ready for two years.

National Airlines proposes new Miami to Seattle route via Amarillo

National Airlines filed a plan to add Amarillo to a transcontinental Miami to Seattle route as the Civil Aeronautics Board opened a pre hearing conference on Dallas California service expanding. Central Airlines also proposed extending west of Dallas to Amarillo El Paso and Albuquerque via Abilene Midland Odessa and Lubbock.

Amarillo represented at Washington hearings by Tubbs

Mayor Art Jordan said Kenneth Tubbs traffic manager of the Amarillo Chamber of Commerce will represent the city at hearings in Washington.
