Two Chinese elm trees were planted at Camp Kiwanis west of Amarillo in memory of Grady Oldham and Clay Thornton. The Arbor Day event featured dedicatory address by Dr. Newton J. Robison and music by Shrine Quartet. About 100 people attended with Girl Scout Council serving refreshments and McCormick Engraving providing name plates.

Trial for Murder Will Begin Today in District Court
A special 125 person jury pool reports at 9 am in the 47th District Court before Judge Henry S. Bishop for the murder trial of John B. Anderson. The 47 year old man is charged with murder with malice in the stabbing of Leon DeBose last November. The trial was postponed from February 26 due to illness of defense attorney Branch Archer. Clem Calhoun also represents Anderson.

Final Rites Planned for Mrs Ella Mayes of Amarillo
Final rites for Mrs Ella Mae Mayes, longtime Amarillo resident since 1909, will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. in the Blackburn-Shaw Memorial Chapel with Rev Joe L Banks officiating. Burial will follow in Liano Cemetery. Mrs Mayes, 93, died yesterday at her home 3810 Hayden. She was born in Missouri on November 20 1881. Survivors include her husband B S Mayes three sons James Roy Lee Mayes of Amarillo and Claude Mayes of Wichita Kan a brother J A Jerman of El Paso and six grandchildren Pauline Ballard Ronald Gilbert Roy Betty Dell Claudine and Beverly Ann Mayes.

Butler Fined For Drunk Driving Plea Plea Guilty
A 21 year old Raymond E Butler was sentenced by County Judge Gene Jordan to 10 days in county jail and 200 dollars in fines and costs after pleading guilty to driving while intoxicated. He also faced a 100 dollar fine for driving without the owner’s consent of a 1941 Chevrolet owned by Henry Archie at 1108 North West Eighteenth.
