Compromise Talks On Teachers Pay Raise In Legislature

In Austin on May 6 the Legislature held a first definite meeting of about 30 members from both sides to discuss a $306 teacher pay raise. The talks produced no commitments but aimed at a solution amid sharp words. House floor did not address night work. focus shifted to a loan shark bill as the anti toll road filibusters ended in the Senate after a 31 hour session. State Wins Appeal on Gas Tax

The Texas State Supreme Court refused to hear the appeal of three pipeline companies against the 1951 natural gas gathering tax. PANMUNJOM May 7 AP The Communists proposed an eight point plan to end the Korea war deadlock and seek an armistice. They would keep 48 500 North Korean and Chinese POWs in Korea while fate is decided and form a five member neutral repatriation commission from Poland Czechoslovakia Sweden Switzerland and India. The UN Commands recess was extended to Saturday for review. Lt Gen William K Harrison Jr said the proposal is important and requires government decision.
