Capt. Dale Noyd a 34 year old Air Force pilot at Cannon Air Force Base says he would go to jail rather than Vietnam in a bid to be classified as a conscientious objector. A preliminary hearing to determine if his case will be admitted to the 10th U S Circuit Court of Appeals is set for Tuesday in Denver. Noyd argues the Vietnam War is a civil conflict and not a threat to the United States. He enlists since 12 years ago and has piloted F100s earning an Air Force Commendation Medal in 1959 for an emergency landing at Wheeless AFB.
At the Panhandle convention two national agricultural leaders debated whether to plant more feed grains and wheat. John McHaney of Texas A&M forecast a 10 to 20 percent rise, Alvin Oliver of the Grain and Feed Dealers National Association urged a 10 to 20 percent fall. Both spoke Friday before 500 leaders, arguing over federal policy and future acreages amid weather and past allotments.
NEW YORK AP The World Journal Tribune ceased publication Friday after eight months, blaming union harassment and a new industry wage pattern. President Matt Meyer said unions’ intransigence led to the loss of money and lack of buyer interest, with deficits totaling about $8.4 million annually as a wage negotiation round set a 21 percent rise over three years.
Louisville threats forced Churchill Downs to replace three Derby day bands from Louisville Male High, University of Louisville, and Lincoln High School Vincennes. About 1,000 police and National Guardsmen will be on duty, with possible expansion. Open housing groups threaten disruption but offered no details. band director Ray Boesser noted parental concerns and cancellation despite potential risk.
