Senate panel backs younger draft age 19 push

Pilots Brave Swarm Of Dogfighting MIGs

U S pilots engaged seven dogfights with MIG interceptors near Hanoi. Air Force Col Robin Olds shot down a MIG21 24 miles northwest of Hanoi becoming the first double MIG killer of the Vietnam War. Olds, 44, a WWII ace, has 49 MIGs to his credit in Vietnam. Ground action focuses on Hill 881 North as Marines pursue high ground near the Laotian border with near 1,000 casualties in 12 days of fighting.

Boy Survives 3 Story Fall In Chicago Hotel

A 16 month old boy named Rupert Christopher Burton wandered from his parents room on the 14th floor of the Essex Inn and fell eight stories landing on a five story roof. He underwent surgery for 342 hours at Presbyterian St Luke's Hospital to repair his arm and assess head and abdominal injuries. His parents Dr and Mrs Rupert C Burton of Pittsford New York were attending the American Industrial Hygiene Conference in Chicago.

Judicial Remap Plan Clears House Group

A proposed judicial redistricting bill clears the House Judicial Districts Committee. Moon Orbiter mission ready for polar moon pictures

The Atlas Agena launch at 6 25 p m EDT aims for a picture taking orbit around the moon Monday. It is Americas second moon shot in three weeks and seeks to chart landing sites and dim polar regions. The 860 pound Lunar Orbiter left Earth on its ambitious 245 519 mile voyage amid last minute launch doubts.

Tiger Bit Soldier in Vietnam Ambush

Cpl. David Schwiman of Osterburg Bedford County was on an ambush near the demilitarized zone in Vietnam when a tiger leapt from a bush and bit his right arm. He punched the animal in the nose, the tiger was driven off, and Schwiman was evacuated for treatment. Doctors expect a skin graft will fully heal the arm.
