Five people died in a two car crash on U.S. Highway 54 one mile northeast of Guymon Oklahoma. The Rubidoux family members perished and two Panhandle A M students were injured, with authorities citing a U turn by Mrs Riddle as the cause. The fatalities raise Texas County traffic deaths to seven this year.

Henry Thomas Hill, 36, on parole from San Quentin, was killed after firing at officers at a roadblock north of Brookings Oregon while holding four Brookings youths as hostages and using his girlfriend as a shield. The four hostages were unharmed.
