Dynamite Van Blast Jars Merkel West Texas Town
A dynamite laden truck exploded near Merkel Texas early Wednesday. The blast shattered hundreds of windows and blew a 25 by 50 foot hole in Interstate 20 while surrounding the highway with a ring of fire. Three people were hospitalized including Merkel fire chief Waymon Adcock in poor condition and driver Chester McWilliams in critical condition. A waitress, Fanny Carver, suffered severe cuts from flying glass. The blast was triggered by a smoldering flat tire after the driver Arthur Caudle pulled over.
