Boy swept 75 yards in Thompson Park rescue

Ten year old Calvin West was carried more than 75 yards by swift flood water in Thompson Park after leaving a spring party. Air Force sergeant M. Sgt. Jim Clasby rescued him from a brick drainage ditch as the waters rose over two feet. The boy, son of Owen and Maxine West, clung to the curb until help arrived.

Showers Hop Across High Plains Overnight

Federal mediator joins Phillips talks at Borger plant

A federal mediator from Oklahoma City joined negotiations on May 2 in Borger as Local 351 and Philblack sought new contracts for Phillips Petroleum at the Plains Plant. Talks on the Philblack contract continued while lips Chemical Co negotiations stalled after the plant walkout. Twenty other plant contracts were extended to May 15 with 24 hour notice.

Murder Suspects On Loose After Los Angeles Escape

Police pursue David Frank McKnight and Georgia Bryan after they fatally beat Raymond Reed in New York and carjacked a Los Angeles man at the Statler Hotel. Zeidman, held nine hours, escaped and provided details of the kidnapping and getaway. The suspects fled in a blue and white 1957 Ford with California plate LGH 278.

Employment Rises in Amarillo in April

Amarillo job data show a spring upturn in April as unemployment claims decline from March highs. The Texas Employment Commission reported 784 claimants for the week ending Friday, down from 1,097 the week of March 21, with weather aiding construction and 1,242 workers placed on jobs in April, a 65 percent rise from March.
