Woman Grocer Fights Off Thug Robbery at Ellison Store

Velma Ellison of Ellison Grocery 1303 Houston described a daytime attack by a man and a small dark woman with a baby, who entered to shop and assaulted her then robbed the till. The man was lighter in complexion, about 25 or 26, and a blue sedan with license 6372 was seen nearby.

Tornadoes Kill 10 Across Three States and Drown Three

Tornadoes across Kansas Oklahoma and Missouri killed 10 people injured 38 and caused substantial property damage. Victims included Alva N Forney Rose Wallen Opal Wallen Latrelle Casey and others in Bernice Oklahoma and near Lake of the Ozarks Missouri. Three youths drowned when a boat capsized on the Lake of the Ozarks.

Drills Probe Hollow Spots Along Tucumcari Tunnel

Poison Found In Downs' Body

A. M. Downs, found in a cane patch near Wheeler, had definite traces of strychnine in his viscera per a Department of Public Safety report. Wheeler County Attorney Homer Moss said the death could be suicide or murder, with possible foul play but unusual poisoning sources. Witnesses remain to be questioned as a half-dug grave and charred remains of a suitcase and clothing were noted.

It’s Plain Mr Ike Now Army Tells Him Goodbye

February 7 marked Eisenhower’s departure to take up the presidency at Columbia University’s official residence. Four Injured in Wreck at Tulia

Four persons were injured in a head on collision on Highway 87 four miles north of Tulia. Mrs. George Smith of Plainview and Charles Glenn, listed at the Herring Hotel in Amarillo, were in critical condition. Others injured were George Smith and Ed Haynes, both from Plainview.

Optima Worker Killed in Crash Near Guymon

Walter Sherman Melton 31 died when his car overturned on the Guyman Optima Road. He was a tool dresser in local gas fields, living with his wife and three children in Optima. An unidentified motorist rushed him to Guymon where he died en route. Police offered no probable cause details and a local resident cited poor road conditions.

About eighty guests and staff fled or were rescued by firemen as flames swept through the Kennewick Hotel, a three story frame landmark in Kennewick Washington.
