About 64 Australians and New Zealanders from a nine group tour from down under will halt in Amarillo for one overnight stop during their around-the-world journey. The travelers are part of a larger expedition passing through Page 3. 1.
In Moscow crowds study large portraits of Politburo members on Gorky Street as citizens struggle to identify the faces. Podgorny, Brezhnev, and Kosygin are among those featured, with names omitted for May Day and Nov 7 displays. The shift from Khrushchev era publicity to a collective leadership focus is noted.
In Bangkok Indonesia expressed a wish to end its 24 year old anti Malaysia campaign. Foreign Minister Adam Malik announced the aim after meeting Philippine Foreign Secretary Narcisco Ramos. Thailand hosted the talks as Indonesia shows a new anti Communist government reducing Sukarno’s influence.
Senate investigators pressed new charges of supply shortages in Vietnam as Defense Department stockpiles or disposals of usable equipment drew fire. Fifteen staffers returning from the Far East and Europe planned to present their case as hearings begin. McNamara denied the claims, while staff said requisitions remain unfilled and excess holdings persist.
US B52 bombers hit a Communist base camp 75 miles from Saigon and smaller strikes hit a Viet Cong munitions plant 50 miles from the capital. Coastline ships of the 7th Fleet blasted enemy buildings with rockets and five inch shells. In Saigon May Day demonstrators pressed for peace and an end to attacks. Ground actions on labor day were largely stagnant amid weather and supply shortages. Two US planes were lost over North Vietnam, with pilots missing in action.
An 18 year old Amarillo youth, Carl Richard Stoffle, died after a Farm to Market 2394 crash near Pullman Switch. He was dead on arrival at Neblett Hospital in Canyon after the vehicle overturned and Skidded following an S curve. Three passengers were treated and released. Survivors include his parents Ben and unnamed mother, a brother Ben, sisters Diane, Mary Sue and Rebecca, and grandparents. Arrangements are pending with Schooler Gordon Funeral Directors.
The body of Prince Friedreich, grandson of Kaiser Wilhelm II and heir to the Prussian legacy, was found floating in the Rhine near Bingen. Police ruled the death a suicide after the prince reportedly disappeared following a painful marital breakup. A cufflink gift from King George V helped identify him. The prince had vanished from the Rheinhartshausen castle about two weeks earlier.
Mrs Celia Harris of Amarillo questions the Rhine death of Prince Fried rich of Prussia. She says it cannot be suicide, citing a March visit and lack of disp onency, and notes no funeral details have been received as of Sunday night.

A resident in a low basket neighborhood fears for safety as water seeps into homes. The second phase of flooding worsens with rising water after heavy rains.
Moscow reports Believed to show no new weapons for first time in three years as Malinovsky denounces U.S. intervention in Viet Nam. Brezhnev and Kosygin attend parade with 214 pieces of equipment and claims of new solid fuel missiles. Western observers doubt the claims.
