Incumbents Lose Ground in Panhandle Primary
In Cimarron County Oklahoma incumbents fell in today’s primary with the sheriff’s office and District 2 commissioner changing hands. Carl H. Mayhan led the sheriff race 1 022 to 368 over William E. McKnight while Clarence J. Smith defeated incumbent Raymond Thompson 448 to 378 for District 2. Incumbents kept District 1 and 3 seats with Reuben Phillips 105 to 73, Jackson Nelson Moore 28, and Norville Hiner 175 to 143 over Liogd J. Williams and Albert W. Ferguson. Raymond Gary led governor votes by about three to one across the Panhandle and western counties. Other Oklahoma Panhandle results show Democrat Sheriff E. C. Campbell 499, Jack Benn 324, Bill Bowers 328, Lee Judd 180. Republican Sheriff A. L. is noted.
