Bi Partisan Amarillo group forms for Bureau dam talks

A bi partisan Amarillo committee formed to push a solution on the Bureau of Reclamation regional headquarters and the Canadian River dam project. Joe Jenkins of the Chamber appointed a special panel with Republicans and Democrats to act on the issue, inviting GOP participation led by J S Trippett Jr and others. The move follows a recommendation by the House appropriations committee to suspend the Amarillo office and shift functions to Denver.

Weather Outlook for Amarillo and West Texas

Amarillo and vicinity expect fair to partly cloudy conditions Friday and Saturday with cooler Friday and continued windy weather. Highs 72 in Amarillo, 50-60 in the north and 60-70 in the south across West Texas. New Mexico shows fair in the south and partly cloudy in the north with Saturday showers and possible north snow flurries.

UN Demands 375 More POWs From Reds in Mechant Exchange

At Panmunjom on May 1 the UN Command pressed North Korea to release at least 375 more sick and wounded Allied prisoners from its camps under the disabled prisoner exchange pact. Sen Grady Hazelwood of Amarillo seeks a House Senate conference on the Canadian River Municipal Water Authority bill to address Gov Allan Shivers objections. Austin Pageant Aims to Retell Texas History at School

Stephen F. Austin Junior High schedules a pageant and dance to honor the "Father of Texas" with a 9 PM gymnasium event, a 9:30 AM pageant, pioneer costumes, and a stage coach surprise. Taylor Named on Farm Committee

Jay Taylor of Amarillo, chairman of the National Live Stock and Meat Board, was named a member of the Foreign Agriculture Advisory Committee to the Department of Agriculture by Secretary Ezra Taft Benson.
