West Texas Welcome as Chilean President Tours South Plains

Missouri authorities pursue a federal grand jury report alleging Kansas City underworld bosses Binaggio and Gargotta directed a 34 million dollar Midwest gambling empire spanning Missouri Kansas Iowa and Nebraska. Gargotta and Binaggio were reportedly murdered April 5 in a downtown clubroom. The report notes potential income tax indictments and a possible squeal by Gargotta. Hot Rod Racer Bud Yearick Killed in Crash

Bud Yearick, 43, of Woodward, died at 6 p.m. from injuries from a hot rod race crash at Crystal Beach track in Woodward. He suffered broken ribs and internal injuries after another seven-car collision blinded by dust. Oklahoma Man Killed in Highway 87 Crash

An Oklahoma man, Paul Brewer, 27, of Enid died in a Sunday morning crash one mile north of Hartley on Highway 87. Four others were injured, including Tommy Foster, 24, of Stillwater in critical condition at Lorenzo Hospital, Dalhart. Patricia Ann Carr and Norma Jean Carr of Channing were not seriously hurt. Wiley Alexander of Ringwood suffered a head injury but stayed out of hospital.

Constellation Makes Debut Stop at Amarillo Airport

A near crowd of about 200 gathered at Amarillo Air Terminal as TWA’s Constellation landed five minutes early and used less than half the runway before taxiing to the terminal. Officials Earl O’Keefe and George Hammock led the welcome alongside Riley Strickland and Loren Young. the Connie paused 15 minutes for 11 passengers before resuming westbound service to Albuquerque and Los Angeles. A northbound four engine DC-4 from Dallas to Denver also landed during the stop, transferring some passengers.

Amarillo Pastor Roy Snodgrass Named Dean at TCU Seminary

Amarillo minister Dr. Roy C. Snodgrass, longtime pastor of the First Christian Church, is appointed dean of Brite College of the Bible at Texas Christian University Fort Worth. He will assume duties July 1 succeeding Dr. D Ray Lindley. Snodgrass vows expanded ministry and a campus expansion plan including a new chapel and two educational units.
