The Army Air Forces announce construction of a major base four miles from Limestone in Aroostook County Missouri to house the heaviest bombers. Ground breaks about June 15 with completion projected fall 1948, cost 13 to 14 million dollars. The field will serve B-29s and future B-50s and B-36s under SAC, with facilities for 2,000 men and a security detachment of 250.
