The Amarillo Junior League Community Arts Committee runs five after school language classes in elementary schools with two German and French offerings. The aim is to spark early language interest, despite modest current proficiency. The first class starts next Monday at Coronado School with second graders.

Johannesburg March 30 AP The South African government has imposed a state of emergency to reinforce its segregation policy, mobilize citizen defense forces, and arrest more than 150 people including Albert Luthuli leader of the African National Congress. Luthuli says he was slapped by a prison official. Alan Paton narrowly escapes arrest.

In Mount Prospect Illinois March 30 investigators, acting for Stanley R Pierce estate, unearthed at least 100000 in 1 percent gold pieces buried under two fruit trees on his Chicago area property. The find followed discovery of a safe combination and a map in Pierce home.
