FBI data show Amarillo total crime down 10.24 percent from 1975 to 1976 led by a 20 percent drop in burglaries and a 19.73 percent fall in robberies Violent crimes declined 7.14 percent while property crimes fell 10.46 percent National trends differed with violent crime down 5 percent and property crime up 1 percent in 1976 U S Attorney General Griffin Bell called the report an encouraging sign for the criminal justice system.

PDHS Student Clovis Couple Die in Wreck
Three people died and six were injured in a head on collision eight miles northeast of Amarillo yesterday afternoon. A car carrying seven Palo Duro High School students and another car with a Clovis New Mexico couple collided. Dead are James Albert Cronberg 16 and Mr and Mrs Auston Rose of Clovis. Injured youths included Debbie Avant Gerald Cathey Terry Edwards Eddie Prock Glenn Koonce and Randy Jack with varying conditions. The Cronberg car reportedly tried to pass a truck driven by Palo Duro instructor Nick Joy, causing the crash on Texas 136.
