Oil surfacing work begins on Panhandle caliche highways
The State Highway Department started surface treatment on about 175 miles of caliche roads in the Panhandle. Crews began on 15 miles of State Highway 33 west of Canyon to the Deaf Smith County line and on State Highway 9 from Happy to Canyon, with preservative treatment to follow on a 7 mile stretch of State Highway 4 from Perryton to the Oklahoma line. Engineer W. J. Van London said crews will treat about 15 miles per project as work continues.
