James A. Whiteside pioneer rancher and judge died at his daughter's home in Panhandle at 8:50 p m He had retired from ranching years ago and lived with Mrs Garland Sanford for ten years Born April 2 1862 in Hampshire Tennessee he married Effie Weatherly and moved to central Texas then Oklahoma and Hutchinson County He served three terms as Hutchinson County judge beginning in 1903 also chaired early civic life in Panhandle and helped establish the Church of Christ in 1910 He later served as Carson County judge in the mid 1920s Survivors include son Leonard A Whiteside and two daughters plus grandchildren great grandchildren and two granddaughters Funeral services scheduled for Friday in Panhandle with the body in state at Boxwell Brothers

In St Louis a juvenile court trial for 14 year old Mary Catherine Reardon opened with defense claims that her runaway companion Michael d Arcy shot her father J Vincent Reardon and Mary was wounded while trying to protect him. The father died Feb 8 when the car crashed after a shot was fired during a trip from a Wentzville tourist court. The defense showed what seemed to be bullet holes in Marys arm and a bullet in her back as part of the case.

Nazi Underground DFFB Leaders Arrested in Germany
U S Army officials disclosed the July smash of the secret Nazi group Deutsche Freiheit und Friedensbewegung known as DFFB. Four former high ranking Sturmabteilung officers were arrested and will face trial in Munich on April 7 for acts hostile to Allied forces. Fireman Drowns In Pantex Lake during fishing trip
Amarillo fireman Bruce R. Hughey drowned when the boat capsized on Pantex Lake during a fishing outing with L. R. Reynolds and Demp Higgins. A sheriff’s party and city crews searched in near darkness for the body as Hughey’s colleagues tried to reach him. Hughey, 42, was a Sixteenth Street station lieutenant with the fire department since 1928 and is survived by his wife and daughter.
