B 29s Strike Kyushu Again In March Bombing

More than 150 B 29 Superfortresses from the 20th Air Force based in the Marianas attacked industrial and military targets on Kyushu, Japan. Washington released the early morning report with plans to publish full operational details later.

Phillips Gets Touluene Plant

The War Department announced that Phillips Petroleum Company will operate the federally financed Touluene Plant at Borger. Touluene is a key ingredient in TNT manufacture. The Army Ordnance Division awarded the contract. details were not released.

Big Guns Bomb Okinawa Hit by U S Fleet

United States battleships shelled Okinawa and carrier planes bombed airfields and installations in the Ryukyu island chain. Six enemy planes were shot down, and one destroyer escort was damaged as part of the first bombardment reported by the Navy. No landings were confirmed.

New Food Stamps Issued For Meat And Processed Foods

The OPA announced five additional red stamps for meats and fats and five blue stamps for processed foods. Both sets in Book Four will be valid from April 1 through July 6. Red stamps include K2 L2 M2 N2 and P2. Blue stamps are T2 U2 V2 W2 and X2.

World Premiere of Victory Harvest Set for Amarillo

The 20 minute farm feature Victory Harvest will premiere at the Paramount Theater in Amarillo on April 11 with Marvin Jones War Food Administrator invited to speak at the opening meeting. County agents and farm groups met to plan the event and Jones is featured in a two minute epilogue of the film about harvests and manpower. A telegram invited him to officiate at the world premiere.
