Trial paused at 2 30 P M after defense seeks to prove Crutchfield insane via an uncle insanity judgment. Dr W E Von Bruen testified for the defense while Mrs J S Garrett and Amarillo doctors described Crutchfield’s sanity. Prosecution presented doctors who found him sane at the time of the January 5 shooting.

Washington March 2044 a three man mediation board is to cap the end of a heated auto industry labor dispute that could trigger a large strike. NRA administrator Hugh B Johnson backs labor spokesman Richard E Byrd of Pontiac Michigan and a government member from a list of candidates. The board’s decision will be final and employers will meet union representatives. The manufacturers travel west after President’s assist. One railway labor strike threat remains before the President departs on a fishing trip.
House accepts changes to measure affecting pay cut restoration for senators and other officials, detailing revised provisions and potential payment restorations in the final version of the bill.

A man surrendered to Sheriff R A Schmid in Dallas after claiming he misappropriated 300 dollars while heading an exchange at a Civilian Conservation Corps camp in Palo Duro Canyon near Amarillo. Earlier, tribute was paid to Dr Alexander Hayden Lindsay, 73, Amarillo pioneer physician, who died at his home after a long illness. Lindsay had practiced across the Panhandle since 1910 and held leadership roles in medical societies and health units.
Potter grand jury voted an indictment for embezzlement against JL M Butler who surrendered yesterday to the Dallas sheriff. The true bill was returned February 22 and Amarillo officers have been seeking him since. Roy Brewer of Sheriff Bill Adams’s department.
The Federal Reserve Board reports new increases in industrial activity factory employment and payrolls for February and early March. Steel autos and textiles lead gains with a billion dollar rise in member bank deposits and only little change in wholesale commodity prices. Output stands at 81 percent of the 1923 25 base, up from 78 in January, with a continued rise in employment and payrolls through February.
Special to The News reports officers warned to find H. W. Bybee and a companion after a hijacking at a local service station in Clarendon. Manager Orbie Mayo was kidnapped, $15 stolen, and Mayo released along the road. Sheriff Guy Pierce says the suspects match Bybee and an accomplice in a mud-splashed 1931 model car.
Fair, partly cloudy conditions expected across Amarillo and West Texas. Temperatures recorded yesterday show a range with a high around the forties and a low near the mid thirties, with a total 24 hour precipitation of seven tenths of an inch.
Mrs Mabel McCormick Shuford leaves Amarillo friends major sums including 100 dollars to her mother and 10 000 to Martha Plowright with 3 000 to Minnie Stellman. The residue goes to J H Barwise of Fort Worth and Clifford Jones of Spur. She died in Denver after long Amarillo residence.
Amarillo's Union Bus Terminal moved from Fourth Ave and Fillmore to Seventh Ave and Taylor defying a Railroad Commission denial. The commission scheduled an early hearing to decide if the terminal can be moved and what action against operators, under state law depots cannot relocate without commission authority.
The conference report on the Jones bill to make beef and dairy cattle a basic commodity under the farm adjustment act was adopted by the House and sent to the Senate. It authorizes a processing tax to raise 200 million dollars for immediate distribution to the cattle industry in return for production cuts and surplus reductions. The bill also allows the secretary of agriculture discretion to designate peanuts rye flax barley and grain sorghums as basic commodities under the act.
The will of Melvin A. Traylor was admitted to probate. The longtime First National Bank president died of pneumonia recently. The estate is estimated at more than 50 000 with unofficial total around 400 000 excluding insurance. Widow Dorothy Traylor daughter Nancy and son Melvin Jr are principal beneficiaries.
Ray Garrett aged 19 was fatally shot after an argument over house occupancy on a Luand street. Garrett fired once with a rifle missing. the assailant surrendered to officers and no charges were filed immediately. The attacker used a shotgun shooting Garrett twice.
Senator Connally announced a drafted bill to recall all outstanding currency and issue new money to bring hoarded cash out of hiding. Holders would exchange old bills and coins for fresh notes.
In Clarendon on March 26 the assault to murder trial of Dr. G. W. Shoffitt, who says he communes with Gam Bass, was delayed to April 3 because defense attorney FE. T. Miller was tied up in another case.
A tornadic wind damaged a dense New Orleans lower section injuring twelve people and leaving about 400 homeless after demolishing 50 homes and damaging 100 others. Similar but milder strikes hit Lafayette Parish and Tallulah as a 75 mile per hour wind rode east over the state.
