Amarillo area cattle prices edged higher for feeders and fats as wheat pasture grazing, Coast demand, and cheaper grain ease pressures. Last week 63 percent of cattle sold went out of state to California and others, with Arizona buying more this week. On Monday 8 834 head sold. 385 pound feeders brought 35.20 per cwt and 300 400 pounders up to 33.50. Fat cattle sold around 41 per cwt in USDA figures with 7 500 head sold regionally.

Beiruti report states King Faisal of Saudi Arabia, 63, was fatally shot during a Moslem holy day celebration in the palace mirrored hall. Crown Prince Khalid, 62, succeeded him after official Riyadh radio announced the killing. The killer, a mentally deranged nephew, acted alone. King Faisal underwent prior open heart surgery in Cleveland.
AP reports that despite King Faisal's assassination the Saudis may show little immediate policy shift. Khaled and Crown Prince Fahd are described as poised to steer, with Fahd’s experience in oil and Arab politics highlighted. Domestic unrest from oil wealth and leadership dynamics could influence the pace of any change.
As Communist forces overrun Hue thousands flee the city under fire. Officials announce a planned airlift to move up to 10,000 refugees daily from Da Nang to Cam Ranh Bay, with a chartered 747 and cargo planes aiding the evacuation. Refugees crowd boats and barges for transit to Da Nang amid desperate scenes and waterlogged routes.
