Dr. E P Schoch, UT chemistry professor, urges a gas safety plan after the New London disaster. He recommends a technical commission to draft installation and use rules, external lines, attic vents, basement ventilation, and malodorants for public gas supplies.
A gas explosion wrecked a Sweetwater bungalow injuring 64 year old Mrs. Jennie Godfrey with a fractured ankle. Children Dorothy Gardner 14 and Glen Gardner 11 survived unhurt as the home of Clint Gardner was moved six inches from its foundation and windows and roof were damaged.
The forecast for Amarillo and surrounding areas calls for fair and warmer conditions on Friday. West Texas regions west of the 100th meridian expect mostly cloudy skies with possible showers in the southwest, and rising temperatures in the north and east central parts. Historical temperature data from Amarillo shows highs around 30s to 40s and lows in the 20s.

About 150 taxi drivers voted to accept a three point peace proposal and end an 18 day strike in Chicago. The decision followed a stormy session as drivers returned to work under the negotiated terms.
The Amarillo Chamber of Commerce sales army declares readiness to begin recruiting Monday. Col. Clay Thornton announced plans after a meeting at the Amarillo Hotel where members organized, issued cards, and received final instructions. Wade Brymer praised progress and urged strong support for a united effort in Amarillo and the Panhandle.
Four people died in Boston when Dr Charles EF Mackey a prominent politician and school committee member was shot by his brother Jeremiah Mackey a special policeman. Jeremiah then shot himself after killing Paul Costa and Alice Costa. Police said the motive appeared personal with a declared health issue fueling the dispute.
The three members of the city commission Mayor Ross D Rogers Joe Jenkins and H Ernest Smith will be unopposed for re election. No other petitions were filed with the city secretary by the 5 o clock deadline for a place on the ticket. The regular city election is set for Tuesday April 6. Petitions with support for the current officials had already been filed and the trio agreed to have their names appear on the ballot.
Sherman authorities called in federal officers from Dallas to question a white transient about 50 in connection with the Mattson child kidnapping case. His whereabouts will be checked. Dallas officers declined to comment.
State Senator T. J. Holbrook of Galveston will be the principal speaker at a mass meeting in San Antonio on Monday opposing President Roosevelt’s plan to alter the Supreme Court personnel.
Elk City March 25 Special Bill Lewis a 35 year old Washita County farmer is held in jail at Cordell in connection with the fatal shotgun shooting of Bert Harless who lived seven miles southeast of Elk City Harless died in Elk City hospital after an abdominal wound from a shotgun blast seven miles southeast of Elk City. No charges had been filed Thursday night.
Italian sailors attacked the Spanish Democracia office in Tangier injuring one man and firing on the telegraph office. Police and gendarmerie reinforced streets as shops shuttered.
Senate judiciary committee debates gradual limits on new Supreme Court appointments. Senator Hatch supports restricting appointments to one per year, opposing rapid Roosevelt plan to add up to six justices. Church groups and Dean Young Smith warn against quick constitutional change. Burke advocates pursuing state ratification as an alternative.
Senator Black blocked five Maritime Commission confirmations and demanded Senate back to commerce committee for further consideration. Chairman Copeland agreed to take back the names after a brief floor report. Black vowed to pursue full and open hearings.
Federal agents arrested Dr. J. W. Riss iniger and Charles W. Stuart of Oklahoma City on charges of conspiring to commit perjury at a federal court trial. The charges stem from Eissminger's unsuccessful $150,000 libel suit against the Houston Chronicle.
NORWICH Eng March 2 Experts examined two pieces of wreckage washed up on the Norfolk coast in hopes they reveal the fate of the Duchess of Bedford who has been missing for three days with her small moth air plane. Coast residents reported seeing an airplane with a sputtering motor over the coast on Monday.
The Federal Reserve Board reported that loans to brokers and dealers on securities held by reporting member banks in New York City totaled 1.12 billion dollars for the week ended yesterday. The figure shows a decline of 16 million from the prior week, against 962 million in the same week last year.
The Senate finance committee reported favorably without amendment a bill to make permanent the Connally hot oil act. The present law expires June 16 1937. The law forbids interstate transportation of oil produced in violation of state laws.
Advocates of repealing Texas horse race betting law scored a victory as a Senate committee voted 6 to report favorably a repeal bill after a heated hearing. The Bradbury repeal bill, already approved by the House, faced opposition from those defending pari mutuel wagering.
Avery March 25 bandits entered the post office railroad station and a drug store, stealing about 400 dollars in cash 100 in stamps and other articles worth 100 from the depot safe and the store. It marks the third wholesale looting in Texas towns in a week with Rockwall and Farmersville previously hit.
The House adopted a Senate resolution providing government participation in the Texas and Pan American exposition in Dallas this year. It would allocate $300,000 remaining from last year’s Texas Centennial appropriation. The measure returns to the Senate for a technical amendment action.
A Transcontinental Airways skyliner crashed nose first about 10 miles south of Pittsburgh killing all three crew and nine passengers. Passenger list includes B J Fleming Jr and F E Neill among others. crew includes chief pilot I Bohner and hostess Doris Hammons.
Valencia dispatch reports a sudden disappearance of all Italians from insurgent divisions on the Guadalajara front northeast of Madrid. Aerial observers saw insurgent reinforcement movements after a retreat toward Guadalajara, but no trace of the Italian units remains. The government says at least 30,000 Italians fought in the Guadalajara sector in recent weeks.
Flames shot 120 feet high as crews fought a Wright-Smith Oil Company No. 3 Yates well fire in the North Tussy field. The blaze began during a core extraction of a rich sand at 2,378 feet. The well lies in the SE NW SW of 33-1N-3W Garvin County and is a twin of the No. 3 Yates.
In Harlingen on March 25 crews reported citrus shipping records, with 490 cars loaded before midnight to beat a federal fruit fly quarantine. The season total rose to 20 342 cars as growers tallied shipments across the Lower Rio Grande Valley.
